Rod's Ratmobile!

Post by sharkysam »

I had been looking for an early white MK3 SRi hatch for 2 years, had almost given up, then in july 2005, whilst driving to visit my gran, spotted this with spares or repairs/offers in window. Went back next day with the £400 I was prepared to pay. The bloke who answered the door had a strong smell of whisky on his breath, but he had the log book, car started, but with misfire, steering lock smashed, and passenger door bent out at top due to attempted theft.. 'How much you looking for?' I asked, '£60' he replied. Wallet out, super fast, slapped £60 in his hand, filled out log book, drove away quick! Was later shocked to find out it had got 3months tax and 6months MOT! New set of plug leads to cure the misfire, and 6months very enjoyable motoring followed! By then it was Jan '06, fair bit of tinworm needed welding for MOT, so she got parked up beside my grans garage and hasnt moved since, and i've robbed the SEH for a Carlton estate I had and since sold to the banger boys. So now she sits there with no engine, known as the Ratmobile due to the reg RBP (RatmoBile P*ss off) but she will see the road again! My daily driver is a MK2 SRi, enjoy the pics! Rod

Looks like the steering wheel has been replaced with 4 week old bread!

This will be spot on when finished. I really love prefecelift SRi's White and grey are the two best colours!

So much so I'm planning on building a TD lookalike. Using the body kit of an early SRi/Diplomat, 15" wheels off an early diplomat. and Interior from a late Cesaro.

Got the wheels, interior and front lights. Just need to source a prefacelight set of bumpers, skirts, grille, rear lights and spolier. . . . and the TD to put it all on lol.

You going for 130 8v engine or going to use a Redtop or something?

I'd like to get another SEH if i could find one, I've got an NE in stock with 1000 miles since recon, but that may be a bit slow,
redtop would be nice,I don't think thats the original steering wheel,so will have to go!when i took speedo out it said prototype behind dash, and no electric front windows,i thought they were standard.so maybe it's one of the first MK3 SRi's

Yeah being an F reg it will be one of the first. So worth the effort to save I guess. The really early cavs came with out a sun roof too. and some with only a radio, ie, no tape deck!

But it was the 80's lol

Thanks for comments, only serious rust when parked up was both arches and rear end of sills,I do all repairs myself, happy to spend 2+ grand on her,Kept because MOT is simple with no ABS,Airbag or cat to worry about.
