Well got the splitter fitted this week and my locking kit turned up today :)

Hoping to fit it this weekend and deal with some of the newly discovered rot behind the back bumper

Not what I'd call a good base to weld on... I suppose cutting away affected areas and welding in fresh metal would be the only option.

Theres nothing worse than finding aload of rust like that. Puts you right off.

You could always find someone breaking a saloon and go and cut the bottoms off each side and re weld them onto yours, either that or its going to need quite afew plates making up for it.

It wouldnt be so bad if it was just the outside thats gone but when the inner bit goes too its a nightmare!

Ye, as Dan said, another saloon to use either as a donor or a template would help greatly.

Think I'm going to cut out the inner and outer valances and weld in a good one from a scrap one.

Fortunately I have experience welding these corners as my nova went just as bad in the same place, not the nicest of surprises but workable.

ballache is I'll most likely have to drop the tank depending on how far the rot goes up the inside.

The other sides ok though :)

Looking at the pictures, I'd say from a safety point of view, that yes you'd be best off dropping the fuel tank. At least it's right at the back nice and easy to get to. :thumb

Clutch rings and lock rings alternated from what I can see.

Yeah someone had a serious lock up at some point.

Spoke to guy earlier who's gonna sort me out 2 gsi txbs and get them up to me for 40 quid!!!! So need to grab a gsi prop, adapt a txb or my prop to suit.

This car has now turned from casual project to dedicated 'you will not beat me' project.

I compared the toothed rings against my locking kit today pie and your right its not locked.

And with that it makes you wonder what abuse it's taken to do that much damage?

sent my txb off to mike Hayward to be inspected as it shouldn't of gone

he said that one off chance that the other gears failed :( as only the locking rings were left undamaged

Yeah turning the input shaft you can feel that all the other gears have been stripped of their teeth.

Doesn't bode well as far as lockups go as mine has no abs to protect from a single wheel lockup.

On the plus side the replacement boxes should be here on Monday so should get it all back up and running on saturday.

Then I can concentrate on getting the v6 in.
