Silver Shadow

Post by vauxhallnutter »

So the replacement for the Zaf has arrived and I must admit its great to be back in a cav for a daily. I did about 100 miles in it today and it performed faultlessly. Theres a couple of jobs that need doing, the most annoying being the imobiliser that sometimes takes a while to come off but that will be sorted. It appears to have been shunted up the back at some point so the passenger side rear light appeture needs a little fettling but nothing too major and hardly noticeable.

ts a 1.8 Petrol but is a lot more economical than the zafira was

Just been going through all the paperwork that came with the car and there are all the old MOT's from when it was new plus lots of receipts so all is good. Had a little ply tonight as the imobiliser was playing up a bit so managed to find a switch to turn it on and off manually so that saves faffing about with a remote all the time.

Looks good, Expression that is, right? N reg are quite rare too, being the last off the line. Certainly worth a tidy up.

Thats right its an Expression, bit basic but that can be sorted. The main thing I am missing is a rev counter so one of those will be going in at the weekend!

Other than that its a nice car and really enjoying it.

Most did have a rev counter.

All LS and GLS models had them which made up the vast majority of cavaliers sold.

For the pre-facelift, all GL and up models had them but the L didn't unless it was a C20NE/20NE or a 1.7TD.

In the facelift line-up, it was only the Expression, envoy, concept and a few other "special editions" that didn't have them but they sold in relatively small numbers.

I only wish I hadn't messed up the grammar on the last line.

Replace "which never" with "but they"

I had a 1.7TD envoy and even that had a rev counter! I did have a load of rev counters but unfortunately they went in my last clearout so i will have to wait until i can get another. I fitted a height adjustable sub frame to the drivers seat at the weekend so its a bit more comfy to drive now.

I have an annoying nose from the v belt tensioner at the moment so i think the one off my other Cav may be going on this at the weekend and then i will source another to replace it or even put a new pulley on the old tensioner.

Yes you're right, 1.7TD envoy had a rev counter, but the 1.6i, 1.6i e-drive and 1.7D did not.

The pre-facelift base model also didn't have one.

The 4x4 L also didn't have one when it was first released but was later added as standard.

Had another play today. Since I have had it the boot sometimes didnt lock wiith the cental locking so had to be locked manually which wasnt too much of an issue but was a little annoying more than anything. However over the past week the lock solenoid (which also incorporates a micro switch so you can operate the central locking from the boot lock) has decided to activate every now and then so when you are driving along the doors sudenly lock so the time came to do something about it!

The fitted solenoid felt a little stiff and most likely could have been sorted with a little WD40 but as luck would have it I had another solenoid in the garage so i fitted this and all was well again!

I also gave the car a quick hoover out and gave the interior plastics a clean with standard dash cleaning spray and they came up like new!

Few more little jobs to do such as the ill fitting rear bumper but we will get there!
