Re: Cavalier restoration
Did you drill out the steering gear mounts? If not, do so. Everytime lots of corrosion inside.
Re: Cavalier restoration
I’ll have to check, but most parts will be replaced.Tobias_CDX wrote:Did you drill out the steering gear mounts? If not, do so. Everytime lots of corrosion inside.
I’m looking to get some new window and center window console switches. The existing ones work fine, but I want new all round as old have marks or scratches.
I’ve seen there are a few 3rd party makes, but does anyone know who made these officially for gm / Vauxhall - hence the varied price difference.

Re: Cavalier restoration
They were made by Kostal. These new parts are made in China. Maybe they bought the tools from Kostal? Or did just a copy...Mazza wrote:I’ve seen there are a few 3rd party makes, but does anyone know who made these officially for gm / Vauxhall - hence the varied price difference.Tobias_CDX wrote:Did you drill out the steering gear mounts? Re: Cavalier restoration
If it is from China, it will be an inferior copy.
Almost all Chinese exports are cheap, low quality copies.

Re: Cavalier restoration
Quick update ..
I will have to check with the uk firms on the door switches, I guess they won’t be Original but worth enquirying for my own peace of mind.
I managed to source several original 6 speed gear knobs and a complete lever & emblems.
Also sourced another set of original turbo rear lights, although they are 2nd hand, ... but they’ve been looked after and will polish out as there’s no cracks or damage.
Lots of spare trims and covers... I probably sell most of these during the summer time.
Spare fuel display... / switch / another set of sun visors with lights ( very good condition)
Back to the car, the C20let Engine is pretty much blown apart now and needs some work. I see that all the internals are original and I think ideal time to replace some of these with new items.
Gearbox and transfer box are will be looked at soon. Again a complete strip and rebuild.
Need to get a list together of engine parts and get them ordered in the near future - Ouch !!!
However in the mean time want to get all of the components chemically cleaned and see what’s left and if they need further attention is required
The car is now in a thousand pieces and at multiple locations!
If anyone has any C20LET spare parts, ideally new and boxed, then let me know.
Alternatively if anyone has good contacts for parts.
Feel free to like and leave comment on the link sent noted earlier

Re: Cavalier restoration
I think it is easier when you write down, what you want. New transmission i.e. or something like that.Mazza wrote:If anyone has any C20LET spare parts, ideally new and boxed, then let me know.

Good point - I’ll send out a list as I work around the car.Tobias_CDX wrote:I think it is easier when you write down, what you want. New transmission i.e. or something like that.Mazza wrote:If anyone has any C20LET spare parts, ideally new and boxed, then let me know.
Re: Cavalier restoration
Spent the weekend with a major clear out of the garage... had the bigger items collected with booking.
Several visits to the charity shop and recycle depot, I can see the other side of the garage... hurray!!
Now I have better access to my boxed parts.

Re: Cavalier restoration
Sometimes a good clear out is hard to beat, tho its hard to throw some stuff away thats never needed.
Re: Cavalier restoration
Makes big difference and also items have gone to good causes...
Still have lots to check thru and organise the parts ... lucky most are boxed original parts.
I’ve got about 3-4 very large boxes full of trim and fittings / mixture of steering wheels... including some original turbo parts.

Re: Cavalier restoration
Any turbo steering wheels in that box.
Re: Cavalier restoration
Yes ... in fact two, a replacement for my car and a spare - very hard to get.
Plus cavalier gsi and standard air bag steering wheels.
They all have some wear but perfectly useable
And lots of fuel display, including German ones!

Re: Cavalier restoration
You know already to always keep me in mind for turbo stuff when you decide to sell.
I suppose you didn't come across headlight wiper stoppers in your big clear out.

Re: Cavalier restoration
I already know buddy...
I got some wipers motors but not the wiper/stoppers ....
I’m also looking for these bits and They do pop up from time to time ...

Re: Cavalier restoration
I have the motors which i got in Germany and i restored my headlight wiper arms the other day which ended up a nice job. But the stoppers holding me back from fitting them.
Maybe i could make a replica set.

Re: Cavalier restoration
If you got a template, try getting them 3D printed.... if you know someone
I did check locally, but one offs are toooo expensive, cheaper buying originals (but no longer available)

Re: Cavalier restoration
Trust me mate, it’s hard and I work away.
Dare I say it, I should have kept one of the gsi’s ... for parts.
Hopefully I will get some response in a few days from one of my contacts - fingers crossed.
