Redorado's Colorado
Re: Redorado's Colorado
Yours has gone in exactly the same places as mine did. On my F/os i had it cut out and plated. On your second picture mine was so bad i had a hole so that was cut and plated but yours isnt as bad. I havnt got any issues with the n/s yet. The thing tucked up in the wing is the carbon canister someone did tell me what it did but i have forgotten what

Re: Redorado's Colorado
Same place as mine on the front wheel arches, as above, cut out the rotten metal, + an inch or so and weld to clean metal. Slap the underseal on and take it round the leading edge at the bottom (thats where it seemed to stem from on mine).
Re: Redorado's Colorado
how much do you think this would cost if i took it to a garage?
unless anyone on here fancy's coming to leeds for a day out

Re: Redorado's Colorado
in fact looking on machine mart i think i can afford to get a arc welder for less then 100 quid (which i figure the costs of someone doing it will be about, if not more)
does anyone have any guide lines on what power ratings i should be looking for on a arc welder? also were do you get metal from?
the ones i've been looking at are

also any good guides on how to weld (i've a rough idea on the basic principle but not really know anything on power settings and the such)
Thank you in advance fellas

Re: Redorado's Colorado
I'll do it for you if you have the tools for the job. No idea what rating you'll need but can patch stuff reasonably well with a MIG, ARC should be easy enough to use..
As for metal, spare panels, fabricators may also sell / give you cut offs.
As for a garage job, £100 + and probably not to a very good standard, slap and tack up.
Welding guide with MIG think it covers arc too.

well just won some leather seats off ebay and a set of gsi door cards, so when they are fitted it should spruce up the inside just a little bit

Re: Redorado's Colorado
Windscreen out job I'd say.
Hopefully it's just the outer skin, but I think it might be festering under there rather well by now.

Re: Redorado's Colorado
aye it's the first job i've got planned for the weekend after payday, gonna get a bloke to come down and take out the old windscreen and get rid of it for me, as it needs replacing anyhow due to the f'ing great crack in it.
i'll just have to wait and see really, not gonna do much more on this until i know how bad this is, if i can get away with replacing the outta skin i'll keep the thing if its all the way through i'll break it and scrap the shell, i'll more then likely look for another cav as for some reason even though i've not driven this i've got some random attachment to it now

Need to cut through the bonding. Don't use a stanley knife though, your only liable to hurt yourself.Redorado wrote:hmmmm how easy is that one? as the only way i can think of is to hit it alot
Speak to someone at BnQ they might have some glazing tools or a hire shop.

Id just ring your local in dependant installer, if you crack the screen your just going to have to replace it anyway.

Aye, but he has to repair the surrounding area first hence removing the screen himself to save him some cash.Gaz wrote:Id just ring your local in dependant installer, if you crack the screen your just going to have to replace it anyway.
Re: Redorado's Colorado
ok took a little inspiration last night from Envoys message, got in from work and it was a nice night, so decided to see how much more of this rust i can get at and see.
Inside looks nice and solid

pulled off all the rubber surround for the windscreen and the rubber door seal
The outside looked worse then it actually is . . . Thank god

Re: Redorado's Colorado
Thats nowt
needs replacing - but nowt to do really
I'd be tempted to cut out the the rot and braise in the patch.. probably looking at fabricating the patch, or cutting it out of a scrap car ( get 6 inches over what you want to be safe too)

ONEDAY MY CAR WILL BE FINISHED...........
Re: Redorado's Colorado
well , just a small update as not been on for abit, the cav was broken into yesterday, they peeled the top of the drivers door back to get in, tried to steal the crappy stereo that was in it, but just ended up breaking it, they have broken the steering wheel off. so in the end they just ended taking a shell of a old 306 door i was practicing to weld on.
not overly pissed off, just think its rather sad really, i mean the cars still not got its front or back bumpers, headlights or even a battery so they'd have not got far.
but a bonus is i've got a mig welder and am currently teaching myself to weld
so the list of things to do currently sit at
Weld both front inner wheel arches
a New windscreen
replace sections of the brake pipes.
and now a new door
and see if the steering arrangement is shafted or not.
