Still need to get the painted tho.

I started on the cav today by testing the towbar electrics and found out the socket had seen better days. So I went a bought a prewired one that turned out to be a pre cocked up socket. So I fixed it and got the electrics all working.

I moved on to fitting the back bumper and found that it was hitting the tow bar. So I had to cut the bumper, something I was not keen to do but had to.

Heres the rear of the car all finnished. With the corect griffin badge fitted and the new mud flaps on.
Image

With the bumper back on I got the inside of the boot all kitted out.
Image
I had forgotten how good the sounds are in the car. lol.

I changed the oil and filter.
Image

With that done I fitted the cover.
Image

First time that has been on the car in over 2 years.

I also got the sills waxoiled in side them, the interor sill covers fitted, the interior all cleaned and that made a big change to how the car looked inside.
Im happy with how much I got done today, but still have loads of other jobs to do yet.

Thanks, I like it that way . Still leaves plenty of room to carry stuff in the boot. Your Turbo boot will be smaller as there not so deep are thay?

Got more things done on the car today. I pulled the exhust apart to reseal the joints, Under sealed the front half of the car, Changed the glove box lock and polished it again.

Im thinking about getting 1 day car insurance for next week end and putting it up for an MOT. Not going to insure it proper just yet as the astra is due insurance soon and dont want to strech my cash too far the now.

The only thing I can think Ill have to do before I put it for a MOt is replace a missing exhust hangging rubber. I couldnt get a replacment today.
I will still have things left to do on the car tho so it wont be finnished of just yet. lol

The turbos boot has a great big hump in it. I have cleaned it up so i looks half decent now. Yours should sail through an MOT with luck.

Ive booked the MOT , its Friday at 3pm. Im taking it to the body shop for them to line up the bonnet before the MOT. As its on the way to the garage. I cant see it failing on anything.

I got this for the car today,

Yes it passed with no problem, but the guy did say the handbrake could do with adjusting. It held just enuf to pass.

So that gives me another small job to do on it.

I did some small jobs on the car today. Then had a look at why the hand brake is not working very good. When I striped the rear discs off I found that the discs, pads, pad fitting kit and the drum shoes had all seen better days. I think its because the cars been sitting so long.

Heres how I left the car for today,
Image

I get the new discs, pads etc on sunday. So my sunday afternoon will be getting it all refitted. I had a look at the milage the car has done inbetween MOTs . From the last MOT( very nearly 2 years ago) the car has done 4700 ish miles.

Forgot to say that the bodyshop guy got the bonnet lined up in about 10mins, on friday before I went for the MOT.
Gaz, you were right about having to move a wing to get the lines 100%. The front of the drivers side wing had to be moved in a bit.

Thanks mate :D

I got the new discs, pads etc fitted this afternoon. Then spent ages getting the hand brake adjusted properly, what a nightmare of a job it was.

Well thats another job done.
Im hoping to have the Cav on the road for the start of next month. Ive had the insurance renewal for the Astra it has came in at £230 for the year . I was expecting it to be more ,so Ill have some extra cash to insure the Cav. :)

That will be a yes! When I took it for the mot and back, I got to drive it for about 10 miles. It felt good and a bit strange at the same time. Its the first petrol powered thing Ive driven in a very long time. Everything else has been turbo diesel.

I thought I would start with fitting the 3rd rear head rest in to the car to day. I only got as far as marking ware I need to drill the holes, because I noticed that the sleaves that I had were wrong. So that job has been put on hold for the now.

Image

Next up was scrubbing the interior plastics. The muck that came off them was unreal.

Image

Thats all I did not the Cav as I had to find what was wrong with the Astras suspension. Sundays job is fitting A new lower arm to it.

Wow the interior has come up really good. I like the grey interior a lot. It brightens it up nicely. I sometimes feel mine is a bit on the dark side.

Ive not seen to many Cavs with a gray interior in scrap yards over the years. I could do with finding one tho as I could do with new sill covers. Mine have been off and on a few times now and most of the clips are broken. I did once come across a cav with all blue interior the dash, seats, door cards. Who ever at vauxhall thought it would look good must have been mad.

Blue isnt so nice. My first SRi in burgundy had beige plastics which i quite liked. Hopefully you can find a grey interior. If i see one thats any good on a scrapyard visit i will take off the sill trims.

Up date on the cav. Today I did some more cleaning inside the car, I got George round to help me out this time tho.

Heres George,

Image

His pal Hendry wos round too but hes camera shy.
George got lots of muck out the carpet and the mats, the water was black.

Ive also sorted out the insurance on the cars today. Astra cost me £230 fully comp. The Cav cost me £280 full comp, on classic insurance.
So ive had an expensive day today.

I remember when i had The turbos carpets done. Because they are a reasonably thick pile they really did hold on to the muck.
