http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/projects ... ect-7.htmlBeen looking into a better/stronger F28 rear gearbox mounting and have discovered that a Saab GM900 rear mount fits the F28 and is a simple swap for the F20 one that is normally used.
As you can see from the pics the Saab one bolts on to the back of the box instead of the side, thus taking the weight and stress directly into the rubber mount. This makes it much stronger than the F20 mount that are prone to snapping !
Heres the mounts side by side:
And Fitted, to keep the gearlinkage you need to cut down the F20 bracket so just the top two bolts are left then bolt it on as normal.
Feels a bit better with the Saab mount and I am looking into fitting a full set of uprated ones soon.
Have also fitted harness eyebolts so that I can use clip in 3 point harnesses for trackdays
turbodan just linked me to this on mig so i thought id nick it and post it before he does
Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
intresting... I'll ask Luke if he has a spare. if not £51+VAT from GSF.

That SAAB bit looks a lot better design than the Vaux bit.

Thing is it will only work on the 4wd boxes, not the other ones as they dont have the fittings

I did think that, as I couldnt rember my gearbox having fixing holes on the back of it.

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
any progress squigmeister?!
Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
well, probably due to cooking her, I've mostly been driving and popping hoses then trimming back and reattaching... most of the niggles are sorted, but still have; a reverse light out, an oil leak, needs tracking... other than that I'm just enjoying her for the moment.

For tracking, Steve's Tyres on Dale Road in Buxton, £20!
Just make sure the rods aren't seized else they'll charge you more for getting them off.
I was lucky it only took a few minutes of pulling and swearing to get mine undone, they copper greased it up for me too.

I'm loving his new garage... Far easier to turn round!

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
Well lads and ladies, I appeared to have done more damage with the overheat, and subsequent blown heads, than originally anticipated... it appears that the oil cooler also became damaged and suffered a pinprick leak (one or two of you suggested the cooler be changed when I fixed it first time, but I'd already refitted everything, so I didn't... we live and learn). All of this I may have posted, along with the "breakdown" in Bolton and the 20 miles of nursing her home.
Forward one month, the melting of snow and the lack of sub-zero temperatures and I commenced with the rip down... no pics yet as I'm on a tight deadline now and had to work alone, but the front bank is off along with the oil cooler and all the gubbins above. Hoping to have it back together and drained tomorrow ready for fluids and test run.
Then off to the zoo!

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
Progress all the same, sorry to hear it didn't go as expected 1st time round.
Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
what can I say... shit happens... however today saw her almost completely back together just 15 bolts, the aux belt and the fan electric switch plug to go, then drop all fluids and flush till the cows roost.

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
started abit late today and althou she is all back together the flush is incomplete... did a quick soapy water flush in preparation for the holts 2 part flush tomororow.
on the plus side, she timed up first attempt and runs nicely, I have 6 months of new tax on my desk and found recovery to home breakdown cover for £29/year so feeling a little confident about the cav making the VBOA convoy... or a least arriving there on a lowloader!
Planned 30 miles of motorway and 10 of 40mph country bends, should allow any faults to expose themselves by the halfway point (a mates in Partington for a brew)... So wish me luck on the "shakedown" run tomorrow..

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
How's she running now then?

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
Let's just say she embarrassed a beemer, who'd been tailgated me, onto the motorway up to 70, at which point I backed off (trainee instructor so do abide by the, sometimes daft, speed limits), however the beemer driver must have felt that shrivelling feeling of being shown up by a older car so he passed me at nearer 90... which I found entertaining, less so when I spotted the small child in the back.
Anyway I digress, apart from the traction control turning itself off after 3 minutes of driving and refusing to come back on, not like I drive with it on at all, I've had to disable the cruise control because the original stalk has taken to flashing high beam. Other than those minor issues I'm back to loving her
