Squig's CDX v6; WIP
Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
Well the old standard exhaust went back on today and the cav feels sooo much better for it.

Less restrictive? or less noise?Squig wrote:Well the old standard exhaust went back on today and the cav feels sooo much better for it.
Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
More restrictive and quieter, but more torquey feel.

She suitably embarrassed a few beemers the other day and a hyundai coupe v6, joining the motorway... then I was all quiet and sneeky creeping up on a golf, with silly LED rear lights, in 3rd before planting it right next to him...
I think I made him shit!
She is really quiet about town below 3k, but go above that and she gets a very distinctive v6 note between 3k and 4.5k... ending in a screaming v6 sound all the way to 7k (or near as).

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
Changed the passenger driveshaft today.
The original driveshaft wasn't fitting into the gearbox correctly and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to fit. So after a quick call from Gaz this morning I popped out in the Golf to get a second hand replacement thinking there may be a difference from the 2.0 to the 2.5 owing to the differences between the engine dimensions and hence the gearbox.
However I am pleased (and a little disappointed) that there is no noticeable difference between the 2... So I changed it anyway as my CV was leaking grease.
The original shaft as far in as it would go... not ideal.
Little tip; a bit of WD40 on the thread aids crown/hub nut removal...
...and another tip when splitting the suspension off the wishbone is to leave the nut on the thread before splitting and to undo the tie rod. I used the tuning fork style splitter, if your gentle at first it's possible to split the joint without breaking the rubber.
So I'm gradually sorting all the niggles, next on the list is sorting the coolant system and finding why she heats up so fast in standing traffic since blowing the heads...
oh and here one of her at 6:30am in Buxton...

it must be a v6 thing. mine is the same, below 3k it's quite unassuming, even with the dtm backbox, but then around 4.5k it gets a completely new lease of life, just roars into action, can be a bit of a handful all that power through the front wheels from standstill. and of course the air filter and 'zorst spring to life then as well hehe

Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
let me take you a long way back in time young squigster... ive just read this wip thread from start to finish all over again, and i wondered if you'd seen a noted difference after you dremmelled out your inlet ports to match the omega lower inlet divider? looks like a straightforward enough mod that i had considered myself but thought id ask first hand what you thought of the results?
Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
never finished it as I lost the grinding heads and have only recently bought some more
on the to do list

looking nice as always. Me 3.0 heats up quickly but the auto stays cool all the time. I dont know if the radiator on the 3.0 needs replacing as it was on when the oil cooler went, so it did get full of oily water. tho it has been flushed etc. Dont know how much radiators cost.

£150 standard replacement, £250 alloy replacement... look to the auxiliary electric pump, which is what I'm doing at the weekend.HAIRIBO wrote:looking nice as always. Re: Squig's CDX v6; WIP
Well the leaky rad has been finally sorted and the overheating issue is resolved (thanks Gaz). As it happens, it wasn't the aux pump that was up the swanny, it was the radiator temperature sensor... so now in standing traffic she does get warm the fan now starts correctly.
However the wiper mechanism fell apart the other day... again... so rather than buy a 3rd I decided a repair may be the best option. The motor, etc was removed and "modified" to prevent further collapsing.
Basically drill the ball part/s of the balljoints and fit a washer & screw. Simple. No more falling apart... on the motorway... at 70mph... on a sunny day... when, all of a sudden, it started raining!
Gaz has the pics...
