Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
This afternoon I went about making a cold air feed for my cone filter, took as many step by step photo's as I could be assed. So this is the way I did it...
Firstly I marked out the hole to cut
And the rest is obvious...
After a lot of ramming I got the aluminium air feed down the back of this hole behind the headlight which goes to the back of the bumper.
I then cable tied the air feed to the inside bumper and cut grooves in the left hand side for the wire to hook in to (if that makes sense :S)
After making sure that it was secure enough I taped it up and resprayed it black to hide the aluminium and scratches.
Bought this aluminium mesh off ebay for like £3 quid, feels strong. cut it to fit behind the hole and in front of the air feed.
Anyone would think it goes fast, right?
I wasn't sure on whether or not to spray the aluminium mesh black too?
Does it look tacky left as it is and unsprayed?
Thoughts please!

Oh yeah, I saw them. You've got a lot of vauxhalls there
Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Nice work but be careful of puddles and rain now you have that feed as cone filters don't like water and neither does the inlet..
Had one on my Corsa a while back and nothing but problems im afraid..

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Chers but it should be okay, I've got drainage holes in the tube at the bottom and cone isn't attached to tube. There's also two 90 degree (ish) bends in the tube as it goes up behind the headlight so water should'nt get to the cone anymore than it would of before. You'd think?Mikebmth wrote:Nice work but be careful of puddles and rain now you have that feed as cone filters don't like water and neither does the inlet..

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Hmmm fair play mate, should be ok...
90 degree bends will cut the air flow down a bit anyway but should stop any nasty's getting to the filter, was considering something like this myself at one point..

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Well yeah that's it, the air feed couldn't come from anywhere else though unfortunately, it's more of a straightened out S bend.
Yeah I needed some sort of cold air feed, since I have a cone filter. Bought a stainless steel tube to extent the cone closer to the light where the cold airs coming in but it was pretty cheap to do. Ali tube was like £3 and so was the mesh, both off tut'bay!

Just had a 30 minute drive in the sun, about half normally and half foot to the floor, checked the cone when I got home and it was very cold, as was the stainless steel tube too. Success!

That's the reassurance I like to hear
What do people think of the aluminium grill in the front bumper? Spray it black?

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Think its looks quit inconspicuous compared to some but if u really want to hide it I would spray it black that pipe looks twice as fat as my k&n one I had for my old 2.0 8v. I just ran mine strait down facing the floor behind the bumper. Don't think I would have made quit as clean of a job as you have.

Cheers, It was 5" diameter I think... Just the right size to be wedged through the hole behind the light. Black it'll be then! Cheers bays

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Since it was raining today and I couldn't get on with any painting and decided to spend the morning giving the inside a good clean.
Washed rubber matts, hoovered every corner gave the dash and doors a spray of btb.
And a souvenir form Greece, given to by a friend. Charmin'.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Sorry for the recent naughty photo mr moderator!
Anyway, had a general tidy up and paint in the engine bay after cleaning up the rocker cover the other week. Tidying up loose wires and hoses, sanding back and repainting old pipes and getting rid of any unwanted oil spills.
Dumping loads of photos.

Just waiting for a sunny few days so I can finish them off with some lacquer and start on the other side.
Its Toskana red, haven't seen another the same colour on here before? But it's definitely standard

New centre box bought to replace the current which is blowing through a 10mm hole. Anyone had any experience with these? Seems cheap.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Well I bought the new centre box as the blowing was doing my head in and would probably need changing come mot time anyway. Came the next day! Can't complain. Got that changed this weekend and it feels much nicer to drive, spent more time trying to get the backbox on straight again, still trying. Also got a new U clamp for the backbox, old ones thread had rusted and corroded, much tighter fit now which I think has contributed to the smoothness.
£25 for the centre box
£1 for the gasket
£1 U Clamp
Old:
There were about 4 holes scattered over the top side of the centre box, hidden but they were heard!
And I think the cat has seen better days :S Old gasket falling apart
New gasket, nuts and bolts
New centre box
Will give the exhaust a coat of heat resistant paint tomorrow.
Still blowing somewhere up the front, its a horrible raspy sound, very tinny. Cant work out where its coming from though, only heard when I accelerate?

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Realised the joint just has to be tightened and pull the filter closer together..
A couple of replacement indicators came in the post, got them for £9 delivered. I'm going to take them apart and spray the insides properly this time, removing the reflective orange lens as I go and spraying behind.
Uprated orange bulbs too, but how do you get the back off? Doesnt seem to want to budge.
