Mild irritation... managed to disconnect the speed signal putting the clocks back and worse I've disconnected the heater cable so the heater is on full temperature if the blower is on...

:(

...but I did get a set of metal rocker covers for the v6 and a pile of other bits for the Tigra and Golf (soon to go from a poxy 15-16mm brake master cylinder to a 23mm if it fits) from the scrappy. I was struggling to remove the covers not having the correct tools, but fortune was with us and Danny, Chris and Tim appeared while we were there and was lucky enough to borrow some tools for removing the covers.
Set about cleaning the rocker covers with a covering of washing powder and a trip through the dishwasher, then a spray of engine degreasant and boiling water twice. Then I got busy with a mains powered drill and the results are extremely pleasing, going to get the dremel out to finish it and paint the recessed areas black.

Just need a new set of gaskets before I fit them... oh and I ripped the underbonnet cover out (hoping for a little more v6 sound) and found some sneaky rust...

Iffy day today for me. Emma had a better day managing to fit a new oil pressure switch and find a second at the scrapyard, and find and fit a new reverse switch... which works. Only downside was me attempting to fit lifters and drilling the bonnet hinge bolt hole ready for the ball joint bolt and then not being able to find the tap and die set so the bonnet is temporally attached with 3 screws and a cable tie.

I think an easier way of attaching that bonnet ball joint thingy is to drill a hole 6mm diameter above the hinge plate on the bonnet and then using one of the front seat runner bolts that attach the runner to the chassis to tap the hole out. If you use the seat runner bolt that attaches to the exhaust tunnel, its easy to remove and should be the same size as the ball joint bolt. These seat runner bolts are the same pitch as the ball joint bolts and self tapping.

well completely failed to do anything about the bonnent issue on the Tigra but have managed to polish the front cam cover some more, do the CC mount and test all the electrics so not a wasted day... wondering on the best way to mount the CC unit, and tempted to line the unit up on the bulkhead and use some meaty self tappers as the unit isn't a moving part nor under any real stresses.
Can anyone see any issues with this?

They are still quite scratched... if I were to redo (which I may...) I wouldn't wire brush them as aggressively

Cheers Colorado...

I have more good news, this time on the cruise control front. After several days worth of work with wiring, cogitating, plumbing and re-fabricating the cable mounts, I have finally mounted the CC unit directly to the bulkhead and road tested my work...

We have CC from 24mph, I've not been on the motorway so I don't know if it's good to past 70 but the CC units stalk and switches all work correctly and kill the cc as they should. I'm so happy at the moment :D

Cheers to the original author of the guide I used and hopefully the rewrite I've done in our How2 section will allow others to hook up this cool feature too!

fully tested now in every gear but 1st, from 25mph to 70+mph and happy to report perfect... no niggles nor any tweaking needed.

I can manage 60mpg at 30 in 5th using CC, and over 45mpg at 70 in 5th... so hoping the knock on effect is a fuel saving brought on by laziness

Yours looks a lot easier to hookup and attach but the v6 doesn't have that convinient mount :D

Don't know about long journeys but I managed to get all the way back from Congleton using just the CC (except for setting off and roundabouts)

Anyone remember what I got for Christmas....

Image
Check the thread

Well I got round to building an "enclosure" and setup the 6x9s... need to hook up the fronts and, then buy the replacements (2 sets of components; front doors and tweeters, rear standard position replacement plus tweeters, and subs)... I'll chuck some pics up tomorrow..
Please forgive me for the unfinished state, but I've not got the carpet yet and I need to finish the sides, hinge the cubby, secure the wiring, reposition the boot light and figure a way of fixing the unit to the floor... but, for all this remaining work, she sounds good... and loud... what was the volume at 15 has become the volume at 4, nice...

Put whole new life in Korn, Metallica, Disturbed and Daft Punk... buy a ruddy great amp!

Ordered the remote CL kit which comes with flip fobs and the lock/unlock buttons incorporated in the key fob, and a vauxhall logo on the back. :D

Image
Example pic from ze Bay... looks pretty generic and should suit the OEM look well.

Next on the cards is HID I think... :D Seen some kits on ze bay for a mere £40, great value and very tempting in 4300K "Diamond White" light. Then looking at LED switches off the bay (I'm too lazy...), and I would be going after the veccy wheel but the stereo does support the function so that can wait until the new stereo...
