Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
That exhaust probably needs a new packing ring, which is a shaped ring that seals the joint between the two sections. They are only a few quid, but once worn they will leak.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Just sent you a reply from your pm earlier regarding the indicators, thought I'd correct myself a bit, as I've just looked through your thread
The bulb holder twists anti-clockwise and pulls out. If you have trouble, spray some silicone spray on it. Better off not using WD if you can help it, as that will affect the rubber seal on it.
Very nice progress so far. Black alloy coloured manifold cover, now that's interesting.... The bay looks very clean, trying to give my auto competition?
Liking the progress.

Got 'em off, cheers Andrei. Wondered if it needed to be twisted and not just brute force lol
The manifold has been painted with some hammerite that's all, looks heaps better than the rusty old multicoloured mess it used to be.
I accept the challenge!

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Started and finished my new indicator tinted lights today, well happy with the results. Turned out very dark!
So step by step, here's how I did it this time
...

First of all, I soaked the lights in a sink of hot hot water until they were submerged and left them in there for an hour or so. For me this worked a lot better than the hair dryer I used for the last set I did. Not a single crack
Although they didn't just pop off.

Took out the orange lenses and binned them and sprayed the whole shells black...

I decided to keep the reflective lenses but instead of just popping them back in (where they would be very noticeable against the black shell later) I sprayed them both black with tail light tinting spray. Although I removed the orange lens, I've bought a set of amber bulbs to replace them.

And the pair finished
Just got to wait for the amber bulbs to arrive now and then I can see how they look against the painted headlights! Will upload some photo's when they're fitted and working

Hahaha yeah, maybe I should wait and see how it shines through. If not, it may be a job for some white spirit and a rag.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
You know you could have just tinted them lightly and fitted Silvatec bulbs instead

Oh right. When you said amber bulbs I figured you meant standard amber ones.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Gave it a good wash down and shampoo at the weekend after parking in a muddy field in Bude, I also tried out and fitted the new modified indicators I sprayed up.
Muddy

Clean

I also finished the rear panel that I had been working on for quite a while now on and off, it isn't an amazing job but it looks better than the faded mess and bubbling arches that was there before. You can see how the rear door has faded too so it doesn't match up too well against it. But not bad for a first attempt?

Here's the indicators, old vs new...

And the new bulbs

Looks awesome and exactly how I wanted them to look, but unfortunately an unsuccessful mod as the amber bulbs do not shine through bright enough to consider them legal lol... So I'm going to play about with them a bit more, I'll probably take the clear lens out of the old and put them in these new, the bulbs don't shine very bright at all either... perhaps a combination.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Ye, the Silvatecs work better on non-smoked indicators like mine.
They aren't as bright as regular bulbs but completely lose the amber yoke effect... If it shines amber, it's legal, there's no specification of brightness.

I just see it as another reason to get pulled over... these aren't declared. I'm sure they could fine you and possibly seize the car because of the indis being to dark if they wanted to? Don't you think?Cavalier342 wrote:Ye, the Silvatecs work better on non-smoked indicators like mine.

Anything is possible. But it's not exactly a rat wagon, is it? It's a subtly modified, very clean car.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Erm no I guess not, got any idea of how important it is when declaring modifications when they are made for the same car? e.g. skirts and alloys
And thanks Andrei. I've never seen a rat look cav look good either.

Re: Vauxhall Cavalier LS Hatchback MK3
Not sure mate, I wouldn't declare anything unless it increases the engine BHP or handling. All my mods are purely cosmetic.

Ah right I should probably sort that out fairly soonish then, a friend of mine just got his mk2 golf seized because he didn't declare his huge gay exhaust. Would cost him £600 to get it back and he couldn't afford it so it got crushed.terkin wrote:alloys, lowering, body kits all important to declare not just bhp![]()
