Todays progress,
Removed the headlights indicators and grill, to give the coloured bits a polish and a clean up.

Gave everything behind the lights a clean up as it was a bit grubby and may as well while it was all off.
Took the surrounds off the lights and noticed that they were set to LHD- well done last owner, theres was 3 screws, and there is a marker you just loosen the screws right off and twist the unit till its on rhd, took 2 mins to do one side and about 10 to do the other as the range adjuster was in the way, but at least its right now

Removed the coloured panel off the grill to give it a clean and remove the bits of overspray off the center section (not sure why they didnt do that when they painted it but its done now)

Removed the rubber seal from under the lights and fitted it back to the panel as it should be rather than having a gap at the bottom of the lights.

Fitted the preface indicators from vboa and the front end looks a lot better and less lashed together than it did.

Today, i changed the bonnet release cable - a 10min job, took nearly 40mins in the end.
The screw that vauxhall decided was more than enough to hold the clamp was about 20% rust and was half rounded, so i tried a screwdriver and it rounded it some more, tried hammering in a torx bit, but it wouldn't move, in the end i got the dremel out and just a groove in the head of the screw and using an impact driver- didnt work, so i tried a screwdriver bit in big ratchet and it finally moved. Got the cable swapped with no real drama and it works exactly as vauxhall intended. (fitted a 10mm headed wing bolt instead of another screw - should never have an issue with removing the cable next time)

I fitted a spare set of bonnet lifters, as the guy i bought it off had a set fitted and removed them and was propping the bonnet up with a bit of stick, also realised that the battery didn't have a clamp ran a tap thorough the hole just to clean a bit of muck and surface rust out of the thread. (mot fail btw- insecure battery), so a quick trip to the scrap yard got me a new battery clamp and a new pipe from the maf to the Tb (off a late vectra) as the other was being held together by tape.

Used the bench grinder wire brush on it (if you have the room get one - it saves you hours and gives a really good prep job to anything your doing - mine cost me less than £20 including buying the wire brush- its only a budget b&q one but it does the job) to get all the old powder coat and rust off the clamp, etch primed it and gloss black paint and its as good as new.

Fitted the inlet pipe and it didnt really sound any better but it shouldn't be pulling in unmetered air now.

Loosened off the rear struts as its one of those jobs where it never goes as quick as it should - still waiting for the suspension kit to arrive 10 days now.

Thats it for today

Today, wire brushed the brake lines to see what condition they are in, all in all not bad, they will get changed eventually but just getting it through an mot for now.
Removed some spare steering arms from some struts i had and got the ball joints off in record time (i hate getting the track rod ends off on the car) removed the thread and wirebrushed and cleaned everything then painted the lot satin black - god knows why vauxhall did them that shade of green. It gives me the opportunity to change the the lot in one go rather than doing the track rod ends on the car.

Spent half an hour trying to get some drive shafts off the spare struts and failed - i need a bigger vice.

Removed the washer bottle and left it in some degreaser- it had plenty of congealed washer fluid inside and i may as well while i have the chance, its only going to be a pain at a later date if i don't do it now.

Lubricated the electric window runners as they were a little slow, loads better now.

Removed the momo wood handbrake cover and replaced it with an alloy one i got in the bargain bin at halfords the other week- it'll do for now

I did have to take a detour to wigan to get them, but as it was anitas petrol its not the end of the world.
They even come with a little rack for them to sit on.

saves me having to get something else for the toolbox that i need.

*ive just realised those are the fixed end ones and ive got the ones with the flexible heads :D

Image

apparently they were at £15 retail but cos he used his trade card it added £4 somehow (i let him keep the change) , but either way still cheap and from what terry told me there are next to non left in the country.

Suspension update-
This is my suspension foboff, i think someone forgot to send it and they are buying themselves some time.
Hello,

I informed by our supplier.
he told me it has been send, but due a wrong address it couldn't be delivered and it came back to him. (he didn't told us that)
so if you can give me your correct delivery address i can forward it to him.
sorry for the troubles
my house has been there for about 70years its not like its a new build

Tried stripping down the spare shocks- drive shaft was cross threaded, shock insert nut sheared, cv joint collapsed, needless to say they are all going down the tip

I am tempted to cancel the order now, see if they do turn up or they just cancel it, just to see reactions.

Today's work, terry and my mate Dan turned up to give me a hand, after giving the car a wash we started on the buffing, first tried some wonder compound (i'll let terry tell me what it is) but it wasn't quite upto the job, so out came the g3, after doing the roof and the bonnet (and covering my neighbours car in watery buffing compound- i had to wash it later on) dan decided i was rubbish and did the car himself, doing a damm fine job. dont you love people who work for pizza and penguins.

Thats before, even after the paint isnt the same colour but my camera makes it look a lot redder and better than it actually was.

Me and terry got on with getting the grey dash swapped out for the black one, as i dont have a haynes we had to work out how stuff cam out eventually we got the dash out and called it a day, we managed to get the loom out without breaking anything at all and i rescued a few clips and such off the old dash.

Tomorrows jobs, i'll polish and wax the car tomorrow and start on putting in the dash.

Pics to come
