I agree with the other guys. Slap the 3.0 in the Cav and have some fun with it. If you use a lightened flywheel and uprated FPR, it will be a bit of a beast anyway. Life is too short. You can always save up or maybe the right parts will come along for the right money in the mean time?

The gearbox in my Cav is knackered and it was off the road for a year. I've picked up a replacement box but decided rather than spend the summer fixing it, then not being able to drive it during the winter, I'd drive it all summer and have some fun, then sort it out when either the weather turns bad or the current gearbox gives it up.

So far I've really been enjoying the summer! ;) :thumb

on the upside, its a 'temporary investment'. i mean if you fork out for all the bits at least in the long run you'll see a return if you decide to put the car back to standard and sell the parts on when youre bored!

Well I've given up one of my additions this week and the money saved will go towards the monster... Net result of piston mishap and my being pissed off about said screw up, massive determination increase to see this completed whether this year or in 3 years time. Another minor update; the mechanic who recommended the engineers has suggested he look at the pistons, as Excel has screwed up some stuff for him and at this time (i.e. when I spoke to him) has yet to make good... so he wants a butchers at said pistons to give a second opinion.

And I love Carte Noir... damn good coffee...

did you pick up those c20let pistons? From Migweb, I have been in contact with Swindon & others regarding building a low compression x30xe block for a 1.0 bar supercharged application: key tips include:

stock water pump fine,
Oil - Go dry sump ( and don't forget, no under piston squirters in stock X30XE),
for lower c/r - Z20LEH or CP pistons, don't use C20LET,
Steel rods - Arrows,
Steel crank essential , ideally with block brace.

should be ok then, i was just quoting what they'd said, maybe for a harder application. others seem to get along with c20let items just fine.

I need to find a drysump setup and something to sort under piston oil issues... but rods and crank are being nitrite treated for hardening
