Its a nightmare when You get all excited to go see something and they've fudgery it up. My local bodyshop is fine, been using him since 2001 on both cars, Would hate to add up how much I've give him in the past. Or how much my next trip will cost in a few weeks.

Bastards......and if they smoked in my Cav i'd flatten the bloody lot of them. I dont even let my mum smoke in my car. disgusting habit

thats the thing with Gaz's mate owning a bodyshop, ive seen his work before and know he is VERY fussy, so i trust him with the parts on my Cav :D

Hope you get it sorted out squigglett

The most annoying part about that is I smoke but WILL NOT smoke in the car... so for some else to smoke in her is a proper micky take.

Body work is now (almost) done, some niggles but happy for now...

Now for more power... after seeing all your cars I've decided to put up or shut-up... the 3 litre cams are going in... now my engines in bits too so no back tracking!

Image

the inlet ducting and sensor removed...

Image

Airbox, gone...

Image

Cover off...

Image

Manifold with last few attaching hoses...

Image

Cam covers off and sparks removed so we can align the engine before removing cams...

wonder how quick she'll feel now...

Cams on the couch!, did they come round for a cup of tea and chat first? And I though putting carparts in the kitchen sink was bad. But having them join you in living room!

So soon you'll have around Vectra Gsi power! cool. would be interesting having urs and Young Daves car on the rollers and see how the compare now with the same cams in.

Good stuff matey.

Right the cams are in and she's running beautifully, put them in and fired her (without checking the timing ;) if I blow this lump up I'm getting a 500cc upgrade  )... no problems we have a 2.5 with G inlet cams and she, Emma and I decided to do a full bore no messing 0-70ish then cruise with some 60-90 checks so the 3 lane "private road" was visited. Giggles were provided courtesy of more power and torque everywhere, we were happy.

Then the EML lit up and I lost power everywhere, felt like I was dragging a 2 car trailer. We were NOT happy... pulled off and crawled to my friends house too have a look.
What we found caused Emma to creep and crawl in undisguised repentance... someone had replaced my rocker cover gaskets (thought I might as well while I was there with the omega lower divider, cheers Hairibo :D ) and trapped whichever sensor runs up the front right hand side of the engine and across the injector rail... then bolted them down, nice and firm, partially severing the sensor wire and causing an oil leak. All fixed we drove home... LOVE IT!

Manifolds next...

Can't wait myself mate, that will be very intresting as I will probably do the throttle body before the RR day so we will have very very similar setups... really want around 200bhp before I do the remap, hoping I can get an econ setting (150bhp), switchable to 220bhp (if I can make that)...

indeed it would. both of our cavs have the same engine, with roughly the same mileage (mines got 142k, and iirc, squiggys got 136k), and we both roughly have the same mods. ive got on mine:

3 litre G inlet cams
3.8bar FPR
my attempt at polishing the insides of the throttle body, both inlet manifolds, and inlet ports on the heads
Ramair induction kit
oval rear backbox

and a recent service, which helps lol.

ive got a chip for the ECU, thats ment to give gains from standard 167bhp of upto 191bhp, with standard engine. doubt it would give me 24bhp, but its supposed to give bigger increases with other engine modifications (such as G cams). i still need to fit this really, and see if it does anything at all.

looking forward to the RR day. as long as mine makes 170bhp im happy lol.

I wonder what mine is? Well I'll know in 350miles time once its set up on the rollers.

As long as it over 136BHP when I got her in 2001 I'll be happy ;)

im hoping for around that too. i would be over the moon if mine makes more than 200bhp!

with your 3litre cams fitted, do you notice its fairly sluggish til you hit 3k, and boom, its like a turbo kicking in?

as thats what my cav feels like, it pulls well from 500rpm to 3k, but as soon as i hit 3-3.5k, thats it, it feels like a turbo has kicked in, and off it rockets. well weird lol.

Hey mate, well my reprofiled cams are like that. 1-4k nice and nipping

4.5k-7 and you brake your spine lol. Found that out in second gear yesterday. and thats when the reall v6 noise starts. Lots of fun. But yes its like a turbo, most be when the extra 20bhp kicks in. Imagine what a car with NOS most be like. a 50BHP shot of that! Vrooooooom,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, BANG,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Boo hoo.

What you need is a lightened flywheel. I think you can fit one off a 2.0 red top, with a conversion plate?
My Cav has one and there's a noticable difference, it revs up like a red top from tickover rather than only taking off after about 4k.

I still get the 3K magic, even with a lightened fly... 1st is mental now thou, with 2nd only slightly less nutty. noticed the biggest difference in 5th thou putting your foot down over 75 provides some sensation of being pinned to the seat whereas before there was a surge but not nearly as pronounced...

Yeah lightned flywheels dont really need 1st gear. Espec As I now have a closer ratio box in. You can spin the wheels so so easy. So young ppl will thin k your cool, and older people just think your a knob. But at least you'll be a blur in the distance by the time the turn round to give you a look of disgust. I feel 17 again

Turn TC off... select first... rev to 3500rpm... drop clutch and plant right foot firmly on "go" pedal... spin wheels in a futile and total ineffective way, acting like a complete child in a fashion most immature, and enjoying every bleeding second grinning from ear to ear!..

...buy new tyres... :D

Ha ha. I dont even have to rev up to 3.5 I just have to drop the clutch. But if you drive like an old lady,,,, my god its a nice smooth engine. the torque is always there so it never shudders or hesitates.

So I think we can all assume,,, If you want a fast ride or smooth low ride, and you dont look at petrol prices get a V6

Think if I was going for a evreyday car I'd go for a 1.8 or 2.0 8v. Or maybe the Izuzu 1.7TD

hear hear! the v6 is a cracking lump and contrary to popular opinion does benefit from tuning, not in a big bhp way but from a drivers stand point.

Yup, V6's are the mutts nuts. I'm driving mine to work this week as a coolant pipe has split on my CDX, and it's the first time for a long time I've been getting in to work with a big grin on my face that lasts for ages!

I just love the huge chunks of torque it has, you can't beat it. Oh yes you can.... the lovely V6 sound as it opens up!! :D
