TurboDan wrote:My photobucket account is being stupid at the moment so can't get many pics up but heres a few of where i'm upto. A quick crappy video of it running for the first time, it didn't have much oil in and also had a very nice oil leak too!( and still has):

It did go nice and quiet after awhile of it running.

I had a crappy air filter fitted but it really did sound chavtastic! So that had to go and so i ordered a brand new Astra 1.9 CDTi airbox which is a common mod for the z20let, heres the differance:
Image

Why did i order a new one? Because they are never forsale second hand and when they are they are just as expensive as the new one at £66 posted with a filter.

Now the airbox needed allot of cutting up to make it fit but it went in eventually and looks a thousand times nicer.

I have left it overnight with some glue drying.

The engine has a lovely oil leak at the moment from the oil cooler pipes/sandwhich plate which i'm trying to fix. Other than that its pretty much done.
use some wellseal on the sandwich plate it wont leak again.

sounds like you need some new copper washers for the oil cooler pipes

Ive tried new copper washers, tried new oil cooler lines, well seal wont do it. I think it got damaged when the engine was being removed/fitted so gonna try and get another one.

Its leaking from the bolts that bolt the oil cooler pipes to the sandwich plate. I think theyve been damaged when fitting/removing the engine. So i'm gonna change the plate and the bolts.

I got the airbox fitted today and also moved the fuel tank vent valve onto the back of the airbox. This is how it stands at the moment, still waiting on some bits in the post to fix the oil leak before i can drive it anywhere.

Looks cool! Can't believe you moved the tank vent valve that was my only contribution! Is the strut brace going to fit back on?

The fly by wire is just 6 wires straight from the ecu to the pedal, coulor to coulor. Mount the pedal and job done.

bingo by jingo, the rate of progress is great! your sky plus box must be rammed full of old episodes of lovejoy that you're missing out on considering the amount of time you're investing in this at the moment.

Lol. Well because i sold most of my old engine for nearly a 1000 and i still have bits left, if i hadnt of bought the extra shiney bits like tophat and boost pipes it would of cost me nothing. But with the extra bits id say about 200 quid. Not bad really, that includes buyin the vxr turbo for it too.

About 15,500 biscuits* then.

*based on the current market price of value custard creams. Your custard creams may vary and your home may be at risk if you have it secured on them.
