All common places that have rusted Rob. Even then, it doesn't look too bad. Seen alot worse (driven some of them..).
Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
Finally got the underlay up -
Had to slice through it with a razor sharp fish gutting knife
That stuff is nearly 2" thick (5cm) in some areas.
Any ideas what that thin black wire is that runs from one sill to the other across both footwells underneath the underlay.?
Black is usually ignition live... but who knows with Uncle Vaux.

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
That is a very familiar sight! Turbo #2 was damp in the driver's footwell. Old story, eh?! Amyway, I ripped out all the soundproofing/insulation from the floor in exactly the same way that you did. The stuff I removed was sodden. Trying to retain its shape was impossible, so I just hacked it out, accepting that it was never going to go back in again.
One of the plastic bungs in the floor had split, flicking rainwater into the driver's footwell whenever the car was out and about in the wet! Replacement metal in the floor now required.

wire is the indicator.
Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
Seems odd to have one wire draped across the car,Envoy CDX wrote:wire is the indicator.
almost looks like an after-thought.
Maybe the original electrical systems designer used to work for Audi or BMW.
Drivers of those cars never use the indicators..

True enough.

It is likely that once I get the car back from welding,
then I will look at getting some more stuff wired in before all the interior goes back in.
I have a few ideas to consider...
Some of which may be on the line of reverting all the dash to standard...
(Get rid of all the sat nav radio and revert back to a more standard single din radio,
Then put the heater panel back where it belongs..)
Possibly add cruise control and
Finish off my electric mirror installation - I only fitted the driver's side so far.

I like the conversion stuff, but you have to be happy with what you have really

The only thing I don't like, is driving the car with bare metal floors.
All that underlay foam and carpet gives a good comfy position.
Without them, you just cannot get a comfy heel position.
I am comfy with most that I do.
The problem with the sat nav radio was that I simply hadn't finished off the dash plastics to a finish that I am happy with to suit a double din head unit.
And now that the wife's sat nav is failing in her Vectra-C, it was always agreed that I would let her have mine.
(She paid for it originally).
So - I have two choices.
Fit a standard single din radio and use my old Tom Tom.
Or
Fit a double din NCDC2015 and colour screen from an earlier Vectra-C
(I have one coming in a week or two - free of charge )

Make the most of the cav being rebuilt and finish a few things off as you wait.
Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
I cannot do anything to the Cav as it is 15 or so miles away,
and I don't really want to get under the feet.
Hmm - just need to see what needs sorting accessories / toys wise.

I forgot to point out, that the NCDC radio is exactly the same shape as the current CD70.
So the facia plastics will still need a massive make over. Hmmm

Will have soon - our senior tech is going on the sick soon for 8 weeks, so it is likely that I will be providing workshop cover for that period.
(No-one else in the department is qualified or trained to provide technical cover).
So yes - materials and tools aplenty

Well work has started on cutting out the rot...
The car is a bit of an enigma.
Some areas are like swiss cheese, whilst other areas are reported to be in fair condition.
From the pictures I've seen, it is quite bad under there. But all easily fixable when you have the right skills and experience...
Which I don't - not yet anyway.
But the old girl is in good hands...

The inner sills are very bad especially the driver side, the rear beam hangers don't look favourable
Onwards and upwards lol

Oh eck!!
Glad it's you doing this...
It would probably end up being weighed in if it was me doing it.
Doesn't help being stood since 1st December..
8 months - eek!!
And yes - I promise to take good care of her after all your hard work...

Of Course it's repairable!
Now how much of the rust I can get out within the budget is the challenge.
