Been having fun and games with the Turbo as Turbo Technics can longer service them or gets parts for them... So I sent it off to Turbo Dynamics and they said that it was not worth fixing.

It is now at an independent Turbo specialist who has had it apart and said that that are cracks around the manifold where Turbo Technics have machined it out and installed an insert at the waste gate end. The bearing housing is excessively worn and cannot be machine out any further to except bigger bearings as has got the largest bearing that could be installed and finally the compressor housing is also excessively worn and beyond repair.

In the meantime I have purchased a used / reconditioned K16 to get me through to the end of the show season with a stack of parts to sell on and hopefully mean that the Turbo becomes FOC.

OK after buying the full Roose kit and realising that the custom radiator had bigger end caps and different hoses on it I have had to have some custom ones made up by Roose and while I was at it I have had some pipe work made up for the intercooler / Turbo to replace the old ones

ImageIMG_3616 by m33rkb, on Flickr

Hopefully I should get these and the recon Turbo fitted tomorrow and be able to drive it again after a month 8-)

Also the engine bay should look a bit better too :)

OK she is all back together and there is no more smoke and it is boosting well and the waste gate flutter sounds nuts on this Turbo :) Just need to sort the intercooler pipe to the top hat, as we didn't have any metal tube for inside the pipe. Then once the shows are over it will be big Turbo time ;)

I think it looks good though and I have also got a carbon fibre plug cover to fit too :)

ImageIMG_3625 by m33rkb, on Flickr

Will be driving it for a few weeks now before it goes to the body shop :)

Went out for a drive last night and it decided to empty all of it's coolant... and leave a cloud of steam / water on the cars behind it

Luckily I was only about 500 meters from home so I crawled back and tried filling it up, but it came out as soon as it was poured in and it was too dark to look last night. So I looked tonight and found that it had blown a core plug out of the head. No wonder water was coming back out as soon as it went in.

ImageIMG_3690 by m33rkb, on Flickr

Also found the old core plug on top of the transfer box

ImageIMG_3693 by m33rkb, on Flickr

So it looks like the inlet manifold will be coming off again to sort the core plug out lol.

It's all part of the fun though :)

Core plug sorted and running well again :-)

So new side repeaters were fitted. Think they suit it well :-)

Stripped the interior out to find the cause of a leak and found that the drain plug in the passengers footwell had been popped out and the floor was soaked and the sponge falling to bits

ImageIMG_3814 by m33rkb, on Flickr

ImageIMG_3816 by m33rkb, on Flickr

Spoke to the previous owner and found out it was the seal between the heater box and body that had gone, which has since been re-sealed and sorted.

Also took the shim out of the Re-Circ and the pigeon (waste gate) noise has stopped :-) was a pig to get at the cover with the Turbo on the car lol

ImageIMG_3827 by m33rkb, on Flickr

Also removed the colour coded base plates on the mirrors

ImageIMG_3845 by m33rkb, on Flickr

ImageIMG_3846 by m33rkb, on Flickr

ImageIMG_3849 by m33rkb, on Flickr

Looks a lot better ;-)

What are you having done at the bodyshop? I take it that the vents in the bonnet are for aesthetic purposes rather than heat relief (looking at the position of the vents?). Good work, glad you got your coolant loss sorted too! Not so sure about the stains on that seat though...

I must admit... When I sprayed my mirrors and the mountings together to color-code them, people said they didn't look right, all blended together... Seeing yours as it is now, I agree, so I may revert to black mountings and color-coded mirror cases....

Good progress, it is amazing how much cargo space there is inside these Cavaliers, especially once they are stripped out!

Full re-spay including door shuts, bonnet bay and glass out. Along with some custom bits like the bonnet, spoiler and other bits ;-)

The bonnet is really just for looks, but it might aid some flow over the Turbo.

The seat is not mine so I cannot comment on the stains. I just didn't want to mess my leather / alcantara up.

Yeah I have hated the colour coded base plates since I bought the car. So I am glad I have swapped them as they look loads better :-)
