Bought as a runabout. No plans other than regular maintenance.

Still bimbling about, slight issue with the idle but nothing serious.

With MOT due in October, I had a look about and discovered that one of the sills is probably going to fail - not an actual hole but with a stiff tap I can tell the rust will give way! I am looking into getting them replaced, along with the arches.
The have ordered new suspension arms as they are squeaking badly and replacing the front brakes and pads and shoes for the rear.
Noticed that all the bits are in place for foglights, which is lucky as I picked up a SRI bumper the other week. That will added later as will a new drivers seat - probably a vectra SRI if I can find one. Possible rear window upgrade to electric if I can work out the electrics and get the parts.

Whilst away in New Zealand, Father-in-law has managed to knacker the ignition switch and in a rare display of intuition he took it to the garage and they replaced it with a new one. So now we have 2 keys for the car!
Need to take the car for garages to look at the sills for quotes regarding welding new ones on.

That's amazing. You just don't hear that nowadays, any garage can service or MOT a Cavalier, but replacing ignition switches! That's rare.

MOT time!
Insert sad face.
Failed on 3 points: offside sill excessive corrosion and both front wheel rims were badly distorted: due to Father-in-law mixing up accelerator and brake and ramming it into a curb last weekend!
7 other advisories.
So, now I start the search for a competent welder/bodyshop near me, and two steel 14" wheels or a set of 14x5 1/2J alloys.

Sounds like the in-law's done more damage to the car than it's ever received in it's life time! Shame I don't have my old steelies otherwise they'd be yours.. But you should find a pair no problem, look for old Astras as they're more common, welding would be the only major fix. Are the advisories silly little things?
