Cheers for the wiring notes Robsey, makes sense.
The wires looked white in the photo but are probably light grey, I was just surprised at coming across all three being the same colour and wondered if any were redundant.

Yep! Not too dirty. Pity the blue windscreen wash seems to have stained the plastic inside!Cavalier342 wrote:did you remember to pull out the rubber gauze from the windscreen washer reservoir when you cleaned it?

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
And now the moment no-one has been waiting for… update!
New copper pipes were inexpertly bent to a rough shape that resembled a dead snake - that had died whilst having an epileptic fit- and then stuck them to the underside of the car with grey plastoscene .
Small clamp on a small pipe that may contain liquid at some point. Probably not tea.
New plastic clamps. Genuine. From Holland. Bought way too many but hey, I can sell them on for £10 each plus a packet of Rollos.
And to prove I did it and not just sellotaped things in place for a photo…
The battery tray was in pretty good condition, unlike a rabbit that’s accidentially run towards a combine harvester.
The battery tray again but this time with a rubber sheet to stop the battery weeing on it.
As Vic Reeves once said, “Dizzy!”. The car had been a bit juddery, hesitant and generally sluggish - ‘crap’, I believe is the technical phrase. So I whipped out my tool and with a flick of the wrist, released one off. Bolt that is, which was followed by two others and hence I have a distributor now adorning the roof where I could look at it’s utmost inner secrets/guts/whirlpool of infinite blackness. Although it does look like an empty spa tub.
[
What I discovered was so horrific that I cannot bring myself to write about it, so use your eyes and look at this. Don’t tell the children.
Looking for something else to remove and ‘improve’ in the same way Donald Trump improves politics, I removed the dipstick oil breather pipe and got down and dirty with it.
Once I’d calmed down (cup of tea and two digestives later) and back in the engine bay, the rotor arm looked and felt a bit rough and crinkley, a bit like a McCoy’s crisp made out of sandpaper. This, like many other things I have carefully removed/broken/willfully hacked into pieces as imagine each part has a tiny picture of Noel Edmonds face on it, will be replaced with new parts.

Making good progress.
I bought a new dizzy cap for my LS about 2 years ago and still haven't got round to fitting it yet.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Handy hints #43.
When disassembling parts, push bolts into card to keep them in the order they were removed and also to stop you losing them. These were from the rocker cover but I replaced them with new bolts anyway.
I helped relieve our postman of his bulging sack…and was rewarded with new rotor, dizzy HT leads and some jubilee clips.
I thought the breather/dipstick pipe would look better if I cleaned it up and got rid of the rusty surface, so after a quick rub down I gave it a coat or two of primer.
The breather/dipstick pipe had a thin gasket which I dutifully replaced using CAD (Cardboard Aided Design)
Added a new expansion cap…
…and the new HT leads, etc
The current state of the Lowrider Garage
Regular drunkards will recall I had a running issue - i.e: It wouldn’t. Luckily some very nice people on the forum pointed out I was doing something stupid (well, more than usual) and this it now runs nicely - huzzah!

Looking good Dave.
If your thinking of getting some hub caps for it the part number for your model year is: 90372634

Thanks James. I do have my eye on a set of SRi fanblades or perhaps a set of Calibre Vintage...

That'll make a positive change, surprising how the little details make a big difference. Doing the handbrake lever too?

Loving the double entendres..
Great progress too.
Looks like the dizzy caps have doubled in price since I bought my last one in 2011.
I would be worried if your battery is weeing or splurging out anything onto the battery tray.
I cracked my handbrake and gear lever plastics stapling replacement leather covers on mine.
Might be easier with some contact adhesive. Evo-stik would work a treat and smells great for days after too.

Me too.. Thankfully not so badly to affect the rigidity, but it's something to be careful with..Robsey wrote:

I'm WAY too fussy, I extract the original staples by bending them back and the punch new holes into the new leather and reinsert the old staples back into the original holes. PITA, but keeps it all aligned nicely!tonyo wrote:Me too.. Thankfully not so badly to affect the rigidity, but it's something to be careful with..Robsey wrote:

At risk of hijacking the thread...
A garage with damp and a broken door is waaaay better than an open parking area on a windy hillside any day.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Oh absolutely Robsey - after all those years of wet and cold drives/roads I was completely over the moon when we bought the house. But it seems the garage didn't have any damp course put in when built, so water leeches up through the floor. I have a plan to fix this once the V6 is sold and I have space to move stuff about and apply an epoxy paint I have discovered. At the moment I am stopping my tools going rusty with several tubs of moisture absorbent scattered around the place!
