Check all the connections, especially the earth ones, and the engine and body earth cables. Quite often a resistance in an earth strap will cause this.

I will do once I've got some time to spend working on the car. Also still need to find time to change the timing belt kit and water pump on the Astra.

I forgot about the mot. It runs out next Sunday. So at the weekend I fixed last years advisory ie rusty roll bar. Got it painted up and refitted. Should pass hopefully only done 158 miles since last years mot.

I really need to recondition the back axel its looking bad.

On the same day I fix the cavalier. I also changed the timing belt kit , waterpump and coolent on the Astra. Easy belt to change once you remove half the car to get to it.

Mot passed. No advisories. Only 158 miles between mots. Tester was impressed at how good the condition of the car is.

Well that time of year is coming again. The Cavalier will be taxed at start of next month. Today I got the insurance renewal. It's a massive £36 to insure for the year. Well happy!

Jobs to do to the car are need to renew the carbon stickers between the windows, change the Vectra 4 spoke steering wheel for the 3 spoke Vectra one, fit a Vauxhall auto wiper kit, fit Vauxhall alloy pedel covers from a Corsa C SRi and give the car a good clean inside and out.

Mot in July so don't need to worry about that just yet.

It's insured as classic car doing 250 miles a year. The £36 is the insurance then need to add the broker fee and the tax. So comes in a bit higher than the £36, but still cheap. I'm happy with it. I'm taxing the car on Friday so be back on the road for 6 months.

Me too -
I hate not having mine on the road for 5 months. :'(

Don't suppose I would grumble at the insurance, but the tax is about a £ per mile. Eek!!
And then the MOT on top. :-(

Aye the road tax is the expensive bit. That ill be buying on Friday. Will also be buying my share of tax for the merc on Friday , to do the banger rally later in the year too. Mot at national tyres is only £27.50.

Cavalier was sent for MOT today and passed. Got the normal advisory ie to much underseal. Then a new one, front nearside brake pipe slightly corroded. Not to bad for a 22 year old pipe. Between MOTs the car has done 267 miles. Up from last year's 158 miles.

Lately when out in the car the steering has been shaking and getting worse. So today I swapped the wheels from the front to the back and back to the front. Took the car for a spin and no more shaking. So looked over the tyres and the tred has some big cracking/ splits on them. Looks like I'll be buying new tyres then. I'm quite sure it's only the tyres and not buckled wheels. Well I hope so. Find out sometime this week when I go tyre shopping.
Will be all down to not using the car a lot.
Last week I booked the car in to get the cams set up properly. Only been years and years since I rebuilt the engine. So in September ill get it done and know how much bhp the car has.

Tyres do not like being sat with weight on for long periods.
Cars develop lots of problems from it.

I should remove the wheels and use another set of wheels just for sitting on for the 6 months it's off the road. May just use the combo steel wheels for it. Once I put tyres on the corsa sri wheels and put them on the combo. Ive got 5 sets of wheels for use between my fleet of 3 vauxhalls.

That's what I used to do with my ABI Ace Globetrotter.

Axle stands with a 1/4" thick steel wheel stud mounting plates welded on.

Totally solid and safe :thumb

Cavalier got 4 new tyres today and the tyre I put on last year is now on the spair wheel in the boot. I then spent hours cleaning the car. Looking realy good :thumb . It's been booked in to a garage at start of next month for getting the cams set up. As I've never got round to doing it since rebuilding the engine years ago. It's also going to be put on the rolling road once set up. But before I drop off the car the sport cat out the vectra I broke for parts is going to be welded in the cavalier ehaust.
I'm starting to get some of the jobs done on it. Still have the steering wheel to change, the auto wipers kit to fit, rear axel to recondition and a few other wee jobs I want to do.

With the road tax now out on the car. Today a swapped over the wheels, so that the car is not sitting for 6 months on the new tyres. The steel wheels came off our combo van. It's now got corsa sri wheels.

I've got myself a list of jobs to do to the cavalier while its off the road . Just need to find the time to do them.

Clicking on the pics should open up a bigger picture on imageshack.com.
I put them up using my phone. Looks ok on the phone.

Got big plans for the cavalier this time it's off the road over winter.
