I got the head rests thinking the bits would be in the seats. So when I found they were not there I wosnt going to let that beat me. So I got hold of a corsa seat to cut the brackets out of it.

OK, you do it then. lol

Today I got the boost leak fixed, the oil leak fixed and the next stage to getting to bumper painted. When I had the car up off the ground I changed the engine pully, that ive had in the garage for a few weeks.

Heres the fulty parts.
Image

The jublie clip wos at fault for the boost leak. the hose coming from the turbo was sliping off.
The spring clip had rusted and had no spring left in it. It wos on the oil return pipe from the altanator.
The pully had rusted and had buckled.

In the afternoon I washed the car then t-cut and polished it. First time its been polished by me (and anyone) in a long time. Its looking good now,but I forgot to take a pic of it.

I probley am to critical of my own work. I could have painted the Cav myself as my old man and me have all the tools and know how to do, but it wouldnt be a 100% paint job. I like every thing to be 100% when it comes to my cars. More so with the Cav, but its 16 years old so will never totaly 100%..Unless I spend lots more cash on it, but you have to put a limit on it at sometime. With the Astra ive set my standers a bit lower. So I dont spend to much cash on it, some cheap mods and keep it all running and what will do.

Only Cav job this weekend had been getting its tow bar ready for galvanizing. By stripping it in to its single bits and drill holes in the hollow bar. I also did the same to a tow bar that I got this week for the Astra.

Image

When I went to my local frendly scrap yard, I picked up another steering wheel that I will fit in the Astra when I fit a new cd player to it.

Image

Along with the wheel a got a few other bits and pices for the total cost of 'free' to me. :cool

The cav is still waiting to go for painting.

Yes sure are, thay are not very old. The car I got the bumper from had a lot of cash spent on it before it went to the car brakers. As the boot wos full of the old bits in the new parts boxes. Like every part of the brakes, clutch, clutch cable , starter, fog lights, wing mirror, etc. It would have been a very good car to someone.

Your lucky usually the fog lamps are pretty scarred. Hopefully they wont break it to quickly. My local one had a nice Cav gls in and they had crushed it within a couple of weeks

Update on the cav, Ive got to take it to the paint shop for painting next Friday. :cool

Heres the car stuff ive been up to this weekend.
Went to the scrap yard to get new bits for the Corsa. I needed the power steering rack and the pasanger side hub. Took me 2 1/2 hours to get the bits off. The scrap car was on the ground so I had to take the rack out the top.

Image
Heres the car after getting the parts off, as you can see I had a lot of things to remove first.

Image
The bits I took off.

Then it was the Astras turn. I fitted the new head unit I bought on Thursday and the Vectra steering wheel.

Image
The head unit is going to take a bit of time to get it sused. It has a lot better sound than the old one I had fitted before. The car still has the vaux speakers the now, but not for too long I hope.

Its been a long time since I started to do up the body work on the Cav, but after its painted ill be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. When are you getting your turbo back from the bodyshop?

As is always the case with these things a bit longer than i thought! When the front windscreen was removed there was a bit of corrosion under the top rubber but underneath the bottom edge of the windscreen the metal is wasted away with a couple of holes in it. It turns out that when they renewed the window whoever did scraped all the old sealer of the frame and most of the paint too which is why it has been bubbling away underneath. The piece of metal that forms the screen base is a part that is no longer stocked so it is a case of getting it repaired. The rest of the roof is done ready for priming and painting.

Thats just typical of an old car, one problem leads to a bigger problem. I had my windscreen taken out about 18 months and the roof painted at the same time. It needed a new screen for the mot and had a small bit of rust along the top of the rubber trim.
