In my old gsi 4x4 it was smooth as silk as I dismantled and oiled / rebuilt it.

However in the turbo, something's not right as when connected it just continues to wind and drains the battery.

I tried to dismantle it and I see the design has changed. Older spec aerial was easier to work with

I was always told to use 3-in-1 oil for the aeriel mast.

And wipe in an upward motion, so as not to push dirt and crud down into the mast joints.

As it happens with me - neither the car or aeriel have been cleaned in a long time.

That's what the dealership told years back as I had to replace the mast..

If you ever open the aerial unit, you'll see all the rubbish collect over the years around the cloggs etc...

I normally strip it all, clean and put it back together... one job not to rush as there a few small parts. These normall go walks, especially with kids on the house.

Managed to get two sets of alloy wheels for the car.

I am just wondering, would steel wheel bolts/nuts fit alloys or would I need to change them?

As such, I have not seen specific bolts listed for alloy wheels.

This is definitely true for security bolts - they are the same part number for both steel and alloy wheels.
Ecat 24 does not list different bolts.

Well done that man.

It would simply be rude to let go of a Cavalier.
An unspeakable act in my opinion - ha ha

Looking forward to seeing your future progress

Buy new set of mats
Fit a CD player to the car
Possibly replace door speakers for something better
See what optional extras can be retrofitted

Mirror switch is half sorted.

Switch is now working after cleaning it however the driver's side mirror will move in and out but not up and down.

I will give it another clean when I get home with a cotton bud. Didn't have one to hand this morning at work so could not get all of the green off the switch.

I swapped my leather without removing the grip.
It is a snug slide over the plastic, but easily doable.

Easily removed and re-attached from the plastic using a small zip-tie.

Productive day today.

Stripped and cleaned the front brakes, Front N/S pad was sticking which has now all been freed off. Caliper appears to move freely so hopefully this was the cause of the binding.

Also managed to get the alloys onto the car at long last. Just need to remember where I put the centre caps now haha!

Also tried recleaning the mirror switch and it now doesn't work at all so got no idea what is happening with that!

Next thing to tackle is a good interior clean and then need to attempt the rear brakes.

It is possible to dismantle the mirror switch. Mine wasn't very well so gave it a squirt of contact cleaner (with a lubricant) which helped for a bit but then wouldn't work at all.
Taking it apart I could see why, it was full of green verdigris, it all cleaned up ok and has been fine ever since!

I have tried that over the last few days, first time it worked in some directions, now it doesn't work at all.

On a side note does anybody know what door trim clips go on the inner door trims and if they are still available?

Also are rear brakes a pain to do on these?

If it has stopped working, check you haven't lost one of the 'V' shaped contact cones or one of the dumbell thingies.

The mirrors will not move if either part is missing.

The demister bit should work though.

The trim clips are quite a generic affair.
There are hundreds of suppliers on ebay.

Regarding the fuel filler flap - I have just posted this on another thread.

Not sure why, but there have been a few members on the hunt for a fuel filler flap recently.

After a quick search, there is still the odd one available from GPS (genuine part search), but it depends if you think it is worth £53 plus postage for a piece of plastic that you will need to paint.

See here.

Otherwise, simply keep browsing ebay... they turn up from time to time.

Thank you, I will need to get one. If the Calibra ones are the same I will buy one for £15 off Ebay.
