Definitely looks a tad out, but I have known cars to run "moderately" happily a couple of teeth out.
1/2 of a tooth out should not make a huge difference.
May be just a bit flat performance wise, but still able to run and idle comfortably.

It is worth putting right just for peace of mind... and potential "told you so Robsey" if it does resolve your issue.
I hope it does.
Nothing more frustrating that an un-known running issue.

Great looking motor - looks superb in white.

Watching the tread.

Wish I could say "i told you so robsey" but im afraid I cant lol.

Still no joy with the car, after checking and re-checking I think its safe to say the timing was dead on. Looked abit out but I honestly think its just the way I took the picture..

So since then ive found a broken wire going towards the icv and knock sensor so I fixed that. I also tried cleaning out the icv as it showed up on one of my fault codes. None of this helped matters although it did run for a couple minutes whilst doing this.

I managed to flash the codes again when I got it going and got the same iscv interruption but this time I also got 10 rpm signal crankshaft sensor no signal.

I tried the crankshaft sensor from the ecotec engine but im not sure if there the same,
can anyone confirm????

After I tried all this I decided to try an ecu out of my mates gsi cav, again no difference :wall

Next thing on my list is air flow meter and idle control valve, after that im all out of ideas lol.

Your too right robsey nothing worse than a niggley not running issue

Hmm - looking into this, it could be your loom that is giving you all the grief.

I have known of this type of issue before on a red-top. Not exactly the same but it was a bugger to find the cause when all your sensors are working.
(Although that car had faulty injector wiring).

At risk of the expense, I would simply look for a complete replacement ecu loom.
Typical coil pack loom on ebay is about £80.
There are partial looms and an old loom for much less.

Or - dependent upon your abilities or patience with wiring, go through each wire one by one looking for breakages, damage or corrosion.

An "interruption" sounds like a faulty wire or corroded connector pin.

Loom was the first thing that I changed robsey, along with injectors..
When I changed it the car did run for about half an hour but it started the same problem again then sir :wall

Hmm - I suppose, playing devil's advocate...
That the replacement loom may still have had hidden faults.

It is not uncommon on new parts, so used parts with an unknown history is quite an unknown prospect.

Short of "belling out" each wire one by one, from ecu plug to the opposite end connectors, there really is no guarantee.

Hmm - funny you mention the sensor.
I have heard of lambda / oxy sensors being wired up in a different order dependent upon engine type / model and sensor manufacturer.

If this is the case, it would certainly cause a few running issues.

Would put my arm on it that this could be his problem
