Lol perhaps go all out with some Gsi2000 or Turbo or Opel badges.. I got a good selection. Haha

Anyways, back to the i badge. The badges are in the garage.., and to be honest it’s not something I can do in five minutes. There’s about 20+ box full of parts etc. And i got several sets of alloys to negotiate over.

Leave it with me and I’ll pull them out as the weather improves. I need to do a mini sale of the parts at some point. If you’re in a rush then please don’t wait on me.

But hey, keep the updates on the car coming. It’s something nice to read and get away from the daily challenges of life.

Ha! Nice idea about the GSI/Turbo badges - but that would look even more mad than a V6 badge! Especially with my peashooter exhaust sticking out the back!

No rush for it... but I'll just keep an, wait for it..... 'i' out to see if one crops up cheap some where.

Now you mention boxes. How long I had this one? 7 weeks? and look at the state of my garage already! Parts and boxes all over the shop.

Mr Robsey I want one of those, look at the space, damn free air con included for free.

My garage is worse - trusts me.. even my little old mk2 golf 16v gti had to come out of hibernation from the garage. Moving on quickly away from vw ;-)

I’ll keep you posted on the bits.

Oooh a garage...

I have always wanted one of those.

Here is my garage...

(To save confusion... I did post this but then deleted it... Hence Mazza's reply.)

As for the VW comment... no problems,
You could always do a non-Cavalier WIP etc.
After all, I have a half arsed T25 thread that isn't progressing.

Not yet, although I'm probably not far off, I've had panic attacks before with heart palpitations while suffering from alcohol withdrawal, that wasn't a nice feeling by any stretch. I don't know what actual cardiac arrest feels like but that wasn't far off.

Ooh you can't beat a new parts delivery.

I am surprised the tensioner pulley was wrong. There should be only one.

Unless you mean the water pump pulley.
There are two shapes of teeth on Cavalier timing belts.
Square or rounded. So you need to have the matching water pump, otherwise the belt wears and shreds very quickly.

This would not affect the spring loaded tensioner, as the roller is flat with no grooves - just smooth.

I used to get moaned at for cleaning out breather hoses in the kitchen sink... Anywhere that has a tap and a plughole is a cleaning station for car parts, it's normal lol. How you managed to find door trim strips in decent condition is amazing, they must be as rare as dolphins on the moon these days.

I am fortunate, as I am the one that uses the kitchen, and it's appliances.
My wife has not been in the kitchen for years.

The dish-washer is great for getting plastic parts looking clean again.

In-grained grease and dirt puts up more of a struggle, but I have had a couple of shiney car parts including a C18NZ cylinder head from the dish-washer.

And I have used the washing machine for carpets.
Although the rear carpet looked better after a hand scrub.

dishwasher? I never understood why anyone would put car parts in them, you cannot get better results than from your own two hands, a toothbrush and some good old scrubbing. A dishwasher just sprinkles hot water in a spinning pattern and that's it.

TBH I don't know which or what pulley.... I'm fairly technically minded but no mech by ay stretch of the imagination. I know the basic's but out of all the Cav's I've had over the years; this is the only one I ever worried about doing mechanical stuff. @ 19/20 years old, with the GL especially, I don't think I even checked the oil - more worried about how it looked lol

I get both arguments about dishwasher/hand cleaning stuff. When I was clening up my mini's expansion tank there I cleaned it by hand but there were ruddy annoying corners I couldn't get to with a tooth brush but sure the dishwasher would have cleaned it properly....

ImageUntitled by CaptainTimbo, on Flickr

I'm really surprised how good condition these trims are as well. It was a bit of cheap gamble, as a local FB contact brought the same set off the same guy, and he wasn't impressed. But apart from one small ding in only one of the chrome strips, which even with my OCD I could put up with, I'm very pleased with them. The only one I need has cleaned up brilliantly. I'm amazed at how much metal is behind it, as you only see a tiny percentage of that from the outter facing side.

Scraping the old adhesive is usually a pain in the rear as it's like trying to remove dried cement off a wheelbarrow.

If I'm honest mate - just being patient and peeling off a mm at time; its come off no problem.

If anyone wants or needs a full set of trims, excluding n/s/r, they're just sat in the garage. Just let me know.
