Re: My V6 GLS ... From Chav to Class

Was looking at the MOT advisory note and it mentioned three of the brake lines needed looking at. One of which was the Drivers front flexi. I bit the bullet and decided I should get over my fear of brakes and went to replace it. On closer inspection it was shot. and coming very close to bursting at the ferrule. I got myself a one-man bleeding kit from Halfords and set about it. Took the wheel and old flexi off, gave everything a clean and placed the new one back on.

Out with the old:

In with the new:

Glad I have done this as I didn't want it bursting when slamming on the anchors. Am now getting the bits I need to replace the hardlines. Will be even happier when they are all done.

Ive had one burst on me. Did give me a shock. I made a quick left run at a round about to miss the car in front of me.

Prevention is better than cure I find with brakes. Hence why I am replacing the entire system. If I do it myself it shouldn't cost much. I am also going to use copper/nickel lines as I have been told they are more reliable and last a heck of a lot longer.

Wouldn't be surprised if they were the originals. Couldn't see a part number ... everything was either too rusty or too worn :D

Hi again RatCav :wave sorry, didnt pick up your real name yet lol.
anyways, i have a small queiry :)
Regarding the illuminated rear overhead handles, how did you get them to work again? I've just tried looking for a connector in my car by removing them, but no luck. Then i read your post, and you mentioned something about running wires down through the c-pillar into the boot. Is it easy to do? I've alreasy fitted a 50 LED strip in the rear passenger compartment, wired into the boot light, but i ran the wire from the boot light, wedged behind the rear seat bench, up the interior pillar trim tucked away in the seals. How easy is it to run the wires through the actual pillar? if its complicated then i'll just stick to my way. Thanks dude

I am off to the scrappy later this week. I will get some pictures of where it goes for you. Saves having to pull my car apart again.

Sweet ok :) oh i've thought of somethin else too..
If i do fit more LEDs in the handles, and wire them into the boot light, they'll only come on when the boot's open, but not the doors  So i gotta somehow hook them up to the courtesy light at the front  Oh well i'll manage something i think :scratch  Cheers dude :)

The plug for the handles is next to the aerial and boot light. Its a black plastic one about 10mm square with 6 pins in. Use that. Its what its designed for.

If you get a multimeter onto the plug and get someone to open and shut the doors you will soon know if you have the right one. Its usually behind the cut out bit of interior lining the boot light is mounted on.

From what I gather the six terminals are :
1) Constant live Left/Right
2) Switchable live (with the door motion) Left/Right
3) Earth Left/Right
