But still a lot easier than a 16V punto...I speak from experience on that one :wall
In comparison. the clutch cable is the least of my worries really. More concerned about getting the new end seal in really.
New clutch kicking about somewhere though :)

Once you get the box and flywheel off, the seal will be a doddle to get at.

It is just getting your box off, due to limited space.

Don't suppose you have a spare clutch release bearing do you ?, you know, just kicking about in you private warehouse. ;)
Mine rattles - like a regular clicking noise, when I bury the clutch pedal.

Yeah, there will 1 kicking about somewhere.
Hoping to get it up on a lift, drop the subrame off after supporting the engine on a support bar over the engine bay.
Drop the box off, replace the lot.

Engine will be replaced later in the year once I get it rebuilt.

Just have to find a 2 post lift :)

2 Post lift won't be cheap, unless you fall very lucky.

All sounds very easy on paper -reality can be a quick lesson in learning german swear words!!

Very true, hoping to borrow someones garage at some point.

Only bits that worry me are the 4 rear subframe mounting bolts as they are captive nuts within the 2 floor plates.

I assume that you are quite concerned also, due to the fiasco with the rear beam bolts on the Astra.

Suppose all you can do is keep lacing the captive nuts with WD40 or something similar to penetrate the rust.

I believe Coca Cola is good for rust dissolving, but then it is believed that Cola can also dissolve a solid steel nail within 24 hours !! :o

The nearest one to me that I know hires out his garage space including lifts, is Fitapart in Derby. (About 45 miles from me, nearer 200 for you)
They have a good shop next door, which allegedly sells parts for most british cars dating back to 1959.

Yeah, I've changed the wishbones not so long ago, so I know at least 2 of the 6 bolts are ok :)
It'll get done, just have to keep checking the oil level on a regular basis until it is, that's all.

Been questioning myself if if I really want to convert it, or if I should just get another car. Not sure yet. but it's taxed for another 11 months and I wouldn't make the money back on it anyhow so.... really it's a no brainer.

Don't know about no brainer...

Someone with less confidence and experience would just leave well alone and run it into the ground.

Also, for some reason, it appears to be more of a love-hate relationship, rather than thinking sensibly about the options.

Love the car when all goes well, and hate the thing when it all goes belly up.
But you are addicted, and just can't say no

Probably right there. Just in a "argh" mood currently, but then when aren't I at the minute.

So, I was wandering round the breakers the other week, and found an upturned astra 3 with its fuel tank removed.. so I took the fuel lines.. £2 later and I have some nice flexible material.

Really should fit them now shouldn't I :cool :D

All in good time. Have you got anything else to do in that area of the car whilst you are stripping and fitting bits.?

Might save some future headaches and hassle whilst you've got your head stuck up the cars proboscis....so to speak

Nothing of urgency. Just want the cav to stop smelling like a fuel station.

I don't suffer the headaches so much, but might explain the constant tiredness.

Well, as some kinda person gave me a nice set of 15's in a 5 stud pattern about a month ago, i figured I'd start looking for stuff to get the cav 5 studded :)

SAAB 900 rear hubs, £27 the pair :)
Dug out a set of rear calipers I'd had in the store room - they should be ok :)

So when they arrive, hopefully will have the rear done :)
Then just have to locate the fronts :) :D
