Yeah, thats one of the reasons why the frame work (jig I guess) was built.

It bolts into the rear floor, and into the front subframe then bolts to the rear chassis legs.
I have some more pics of that to upload later when I get them off the laptop.

But thanks Troy, I will hopefully be somewhere near done for Billing this year

Right more pics.
More rot discovered, prodded and looked further into. So more bits need to be bought and fettled.

Looking for a decent quality sill for the passenger side now if anyone has one.

I'll let the pictures do the talking.

So, now the chassis leg isn't in the way - we can see the back of the inner sill - Rotten, considerably - so some fabrication and additional welding to do
Image
Image

Rear floor looked really crispy, but there is solid metal there. Where it has rotten excessively - it will be cut out and fresh metal put in. However, due to restrictions as much as possible will be ground back to clean metal (if there is any) and heavily heavily painted and sealed once the welding has been finished.
Image

Rear boot floor is chock rotten, the old boot floor from my silver cav (remember Smokey?) was disected over a year ago for parts to make this one solid - however, hasn't faired up much better. But it is at least acting as a template for the new metal that needs to go in.
Image

Rot already started to be chopped out for the new metal to go in. Discussions on how to make it better, are under way rather than having two lips meeting and being spotted together. Some debate on what is better, against what is easier and what I can actually afford to do.
Image

Drivers side chassis leg, is the worst out of the two - holed in several places. Bloody glad I bought the replacements when I did.
Image

How the cav looks from a distance, up a height. It will be worth it.
Image

Rear floor isn't too bad, but as above, there are pin holes in places.
Image

Image

The front is so much more solid - Thankyfully.

Front turrets are rusty, but solid - PI springs will be sold - I have EIBACHS to go on :D
Image

And seeing this (next 2 pics) is what initially started all of this off 2 years ago :(
Image

Image
Cross member was actually rather solid, apart from where it held to the chassis legs - its being replaced anyhow - you can see its remains above

Yup, damn P clip survived when everything else is rotting around it.. Damn it vauxhall, make cars out of that metal instead!!!
Image

Another grommet rotted out. Oh well, could be worse..

Some interesting pictures there. ..

Sure is a lot of rot...
It is all fixable though. And it will be sweet when it is done.

I'd still be tempted to do a full respray in Smoke Grey (in homage to Smokey). :cool
Although I do like that shade of blue too :love

It had crossed my mind, on more than one occasion. But, I will have to see what can be done. Ideally I needed this done for March or I will have to retax the Corsa, which is another concern - what to do with that after becoming rather fond of the little gokart

Great work going on there Gary, I think lot of us would have given up by now but big respects to you for carrying on. All you have to think of is that it will be one solid Cav when your finished!

I would put 12 months on it and take your time, you aren't going to do that anywhere near properly by March unless you're on it full time. It does look like you are making good progress though, and on the upside, those doors look good ;-)

they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

It will take 12 months to rebuild it. I personally think you have no chance for the end of March thats Less than 10 weeks. Youd need all your metal work done by mid Feb. Then get respray, 5weeks to sort engine interior etc

Yeah, march is extremely unrealistic. But July, well maybe not.

It is a goal at the,end of the day, we can only see how it pans out.

Now, i just need to get some paid work in.. Things are mounting up lol.

It never does, but if I get my plans in order (ie this weekend I am rebuilding looms, I am sick of the site of looms already but needs to be done.)
I'm on call next week, so again, more loomage and modes to be sorted along with plastics will be cleaned and wrapped and tucked away.

Still goals are there for a reason, so best get cracking :)

You might be sick of looms now, but they are one thing you can do in the warmth and comfort of your house during these cold dark damp winter days and nights.

A hot cuppa, a bacon butty and a cosy room to work in - bliss

Great work Gary, any more progress to report? Nice to see the car being stripped down to such an extent that you can see/rectify anything that needs doing.
