Sounds good though :)
I didn't post pictures, as I am sure that there is already a How 2 for LED conversion somewhere.

There is plenty of room in the light beam level switch and the main light switch.

The normal square shaped switches are a bit trickier due to limited space.
I can put up a how 2 in a few days if a fresh one needs doing, however I didn't want to re-gurgitate old material (money for old rope)

Looks a bit better, as it matches now :)

Befores and afters always show good progress ;) I know I whine on, but I'm a sucker for a good WIP with pictures :D

Next silly job.

Well, my head-unit ignores me when travelling above 65kph, so if a track annoys me, then I am stuck with it, or turn the radio off.

Solution !!
The only way to sort this, is via the steering wheel controls.

Now Vectra-B / Omega-B button controls will not work, so I came up with the idea of using a cruise control stalk to operate 3 functions.

Hmmm which 3....
Well after some thinking, I decided upon
a) Audio source (Radio, CD and mp3)
b) Volume up
c) Volume down.

This works out by shorting the desired contact to ground.
Each of the cruise control stalk buttons would short one of each contacts.

This is my display

This is the cruise control switch dismantled - to assess the wire colours for each button.

Now the wheel switch pcb's

Connecting a wire to each of the four contacts arrowed, allows the necessary the required function.
The original switch wires are plugged into the CIM module behind my glove box.

Here are the switches
There are no pictures of the display working from the cruise control stalk, but it does :thumb

Excellent, didn't take you long at all to work that out :)

Dismantled the casings from the wheel switch pcb's.

Literally connected the switches to the cim (just plugs in)

Then got an earth link wire, and touched it upon the contacts to see which ones had the desired effect.

Not shown in the pics, but I then soldered 4 very fine wires onto the contact pads of the two little pcb's.
These fine wires were run upto the cruise control switch.
The top rocker part of the cruise control switch operated the volume control, and the big button across the bottom edge is the source changing button.

Bob's your uncle, and Fanny's your aunt :thumb

Probably thursday lunch between clinics.

8 hours of ungrateful punters - yay!! :wall

Just a matter to feed the wires across, and install the cruise switch.

About 15 minutes all in...

The loom is already to go in.

Well, not much more to show.

Re-assembled the Cruise Control stalk - takes just a few seconds to do - the end-cap containing thebuttons, just clips back on.
fullccsw.jpg
Then made up the loom. and sleeved in heat shrink tubing - to prevent shorting of the switch pcb's and also to keep the loom tidy.

So not much, but her are two pictures.

how are you finding it so far? nice and clicky and twidly? :)

Although, thinking about it, I'm guessing you never thought about cruise control then?

Thought about it, but decided against it.
Wife has cruise on her Vectra-C, and to be honest, it is less fuel efficient, than if I control the car manually.

I'm not a mad driver, so this is probably why -

If you are a heavy gas and brake person, then yes Cruise Control would probably be more efficient in the long run. :thumb

Rather than clicky / twiddley, more a matter of not wanting to keep reaching down to the centre of the dash to change functions, and as said above, the facia is disabled above 65kmh to stop you messing, and therefore crashing.

Not finished the install today - only got 10 mins break between morning and afternoon clinic, and the wife wants to go out tonight...

Have to be weekend now

Harrumphhh !! :(

I would have, but the wife was still awake! Also had a tricky virus on the computer so spent half the evening until just before 2:00 am geting the pesky fing out of my hard-drive

Anyway - going back to the radio controls on the cc stalk.
Checked all wires and function -
So as said, just 15 mins to get the old stalk out, the new one in, then run the wires to behind the glove box.

Might do it tomorrow lunch after my visits, but before my admin session in the afternoon

Should be good fun, and if you have a phone / camera capable of video, I think a photobucket vid is on the cards   :o

Not that busy really,
managed to bastardise a power chair bus lead for my signal wires.

About 1 hour to work out the tracks on the pcb's

5 minutes to test my theories.

30 mins to solder the flying leads in place

15 minutes to install... :thumb

20 minutes chilling and testing - Coffee in hand in the baking sunshine at lunchtime today :cool

Great :) I'm sitting down with some wiring diagrams tonight trying to work out which autobox wire I need for my cruise control.

Well if you are really struggling, and your head begins to thump, just give us a nod, and i'll take a look for you. :)

It is the vectra Cruise control that you are planning to fit.? - I've still got the wiring diagrams on my lap top somewhere that I sent you. ;)

Wiper stalk has buttons for fuel computer stuff in Late astra 3's, omega's and vectra's with MFD's.

Cheers, been reading that :) Yeah, it's a Vectra V6 cruise control unit I have here :)

Yep it sure does :thumb
The fuel computer switch set, reset (just 2 buttons I think) on cavvy gsi fuel computer
Three buttons on later Vectra-B, Omega-B and Astra-G (Up, down and select)

I thought about this option aswell for a few more functions, but I have a hatchback...this causes more problems.

last year I added variable wiper delay from an omega, but there aren't many omega estates with variable intermittent wiper and fuel computer.

Rarer than rocking horse doo doo...
