Voyage of discovery today.

After getting a new left steering knuckle, I thought that I would look for a right sided one.
I looked at my right knuckle - code is 90 425 310.... strangely neither ecat24 nor epc4 recognise the code.
Weird...

Number might be superseded, had this a few times with part numbers, check with http://www.genuinepartsearch.co.uk/

I use ecat to list all the codes,
Then I keep googling "Vauxhall" and the part number.

So far all the knuckle codes for the Cavalier are not available..
Unless you want to pay well over £300 a pop.

Not a problem now, I have stripped my right hand side strut and sent it for bead blasting and powder coating.

In fact I sent loads of bits for blasting and coating as follows.
1 x rear beam
1 x rear anti roll bar
2 x square profile outer arb bush clamps
2 x rounded profile inner arb bush clamps
1 x front sub frame
2 x front arb bush clamps
1 x front anti roll bar
1 x o.s.f steering knuckle / strut leg
2 x top mount dished pieces
2 x spring upper retainers
1 x battery clamp bracket...

Should be ready within the next 2 or 3 working days.

*rubs thighs* Love a bit of blasting and coating - looks so nice.
Loomage fills me with dread but I have a bit of OCD about tidy wiring so anything that looks neat and organised ticks my box!

Well it amazes me how bad something can start out,



and then 24 hours later can look like virtually new parts...
And for very little money... abour 1/3rd of what I was expecting.

I decided to methodically go through my new CANbus dash loom, checking against my old one as I went along.

After about an hour of carefully stripping out wires and re-looming, I eventually got to my bluetooth kit.
It is not a factory UHP4 kit that speaks to my display... nope, it is a simple but very effective Nokia CK-7W car kit.

Anyway I had always had feed back problems on the audio circuit to the radio, and so had resorted to fitting an external speaker.

Tonight I noticed that the two audio wires to the radio had been installed the wrong way round. D'oh !! -
could do with a palm slap to the forehead emoticon here.
I am thinking that this could have been my issue all along.
The wife has the identical car kit and radio (CD70) in her Vectra-C and her phone audio is spot on.
I obviously got it right that time - lol.

If you have ever seen a 40 pin quadlock connector on a full CANbus Vectra, then you will understand how easy it is to get confused. That is my excuse anyway.

Much easier doing a 16 pin ISO plug on a Cavalier radio.

And just to add to the annoyance - my soldering iron decided it was dead.

So that stopped that then

Sometimes I get the feeling that someone up there (looks to the sky) is trying to tell me to revert back to standard...

To hell with standard! If you need an iron, say so cos I have a couple here I could rehome with you Rob!

I should have another iron, a very crude gun and a solder station hiding somewhere. I just have no idea where at the moment. Back yard, shed and dog kennel all look like a scrap yard.
The shed and kennel are piled up to the ceiling with Cavalier, Transporter and Vectra-C parts.

regarding the loom - I do wonder sometimes why the hell faff, when a standard set up would work fine.

Yesterday I finally plucked up the courage to pull out all my Cav interior from the kennel.



It looks like the damp weather has taken it's toll on my rear seat components.
A fair bit of mold everywhere, but it will brush / vacuum out again.

And here is the reason for my sort out.





a set of 15" fanblades donated to me by Gaz about 5 years ago.
They all need a total refurb and some fresh rubber...
Now to dig out my centre caps... modified Omega items I believe.

Saying that though - I did actually gift the wheels to Gary Envoy CDX.
But he says that I should fit them to my cav for now....
He'll have them later when they have been refurbished. - lol

You know those wheels will finish your cav off nicely Rob

The powder coating looks amazing! How long is that expected to last, out of interest ?

I suspect that they should be moderately okay for 3 or 4 years, depending upon what abuse I expose them to.

It takes next to nothing to scratch a standard paint job.

I hope the wheels will impress most members... I think it was you Gary who advised the colour to go for.
Not quite original - but time will tell.
Troy likes the colour choice though.

Photos can be deceptive admittedly but that doesn't look too bad to me
