Yes I've got this saved on my lap-top.
I will look at how they wired up the original switches, and see if they got all the wires correct.
Saying that though, the electrics worked fine for the first 10 years.
So I could just replace my switches every 10years.
But...if I did, then I would wire the full closure unit at the connector on the floor loom, not at the switches themselves.

Aye, as I said, I think they've tapped into the switch power hence the fried board.

Think that I have sussed out the window closure module now...
I am going to use the relays within the module to short the "closure" wire for the window and roof circuits to earth.
As far as I am aware, when triggered by the alarm, the relays stay energised for about 25 seconds, which is enough for everything to close fully.
Saves blowing any circuit boards as well.

Yes, you are quite right,
there was a red wire in the switch block, which they had cut off, and then tapped in their own power feed wire to a red/grey wire.
Also, I cleaned my ICV last monday...it was swimming in black oil, but this was quite thin and runny.
After cleaning it all out, I sprayed it with wd40, to ensure that it stayed lubricated, and then blew the excess out with an air-line.
I didn't notice any change at first, however on a long run on the wednesday, it appeared to idle smoother, and also responded better on initial start up...none of the tractor style mis-fire.
Still ain't going to pull the skin off a custard, but the car seems better than it has been for ages. Fun to drive again

Excellent news Rob, really pleased that it's coming back into it's own for you
Yeah, the ford timer relay can be manipulated with different sized capacitors for different lengths of time. Mark T has documented it on his site (TSSD.co.uk I think).

Yes, I've seen his website, but that one just seems a little messy, having to bog-about with components on the circuit board.
Well what a strange phenomenon.
I have noticed, that since I refitted the fuse 17 for the central locking circuit, that the alarm goes off once...nearly always at about 7:00pm.
It never goes off during the day.
I did think it may have been local kids, who like dossing about with other peoples property. - mainly the older kids.
I took the CDL fuse out on Friday, and the alarm has been silent.
I have had a problem with an over sensitive ultrasonic system, but I just turn off the ultrasonics when setting the alarm, and that has been fine also. Until the recent CDL thing that is.
Well the old girl is showing her age. Although there was little visible a few months ago, I have found that my driver's rear arch is rotted through.
Touched a bit of bubbling on the arch, and a chunk of rusty metal fell off
Time to dig out my welder, I think.
Further round the arch is bubbling, but has not rotted through yet.

Crack out the welding gear
CDL causing alarm issues? hmm, strange.

That's what I thought !!
Also, I think the Sunroof Controller has gone completely belly up.
Opened all the way back, and then refused to close !!

Nearside is fine at the moment, but the off-side is looking quite poorly.

If you have the tools, get it done

yeah, I have a cheap and chearful gas-less welder - uses wire, rather than rods.
It was a christmas present off the late father-in-law.
Did a fine job on my Cav mk2 nearside rear arch about 5 years ago

But as it was sunny this morning, I thought that I wouldstick a few more pictures up.
Parked up behind my ram-shackle fence.

Ready to go to work.

Some tasteful dusk shots - hence the grainy effect.
The usual cheesey lights on shot
The Digi Dash shot
The satnav radio shot. (by the way the co-ordinates, are where I was parked up at work today

Thanks for the kind comments, however,
I don't dare give my self credit for the car
Electrics are my baby, and also pushing the boundaries of what can been done with electonics components and modules.
The interior is okay, apart from a worn drivers seat backrest bolster, but the mechanicals need a lot of TLC.
Still have the ticking clutch release bearing, seeping rear crank seal, growly bottom end.
Also requires a new fuel tank and fuel pipes, rear wheel arch, both sills and probably a lot more if I started digging.
So, in reallity, I'll only deserve some credit, when I start to save the car from the rust monster.

Theres a fuel tank here if you want it Rob.
8mm copper pipe, about £25 for 20m - don't need anything like that ammount though
Or recycle the fuel lines off a vectra - they are plastic and obviously don't rot out

Do the vectra fuel lines fit straight on or do they need fiddling with

Right, I was really bored tonight!!
So I burnt myself a new CD for the car, with some different track titles.
I know - total saddo, but I did say that I was bored.
Do I get extra brownie points for my dedication to the site ?
Or shall I just bury my head in shame for being such a weirdo ?

Hmmm, I dunno
I think the yellow van, and the men with the white jackets are on their way.
If you don't hear from me for a while, then I have probably been sectioned under the mental health act
Don't worry, you won't get rid of me that easily !!

Moved a little forward on the stuff that I can do in the comfort of my kitchen with a brew in one hand, and a soldering iron in the other.
My Cavalier was treated to a Blue LED switch conversion in late 2008 (bought them off e-bay), but since fitting the Orange sat nav screen in summer 2009, the blue led conversion looked a little odd.
The odd stuff were all the lighting related switches and the switch panel next to the pseudo TC switch at the base of the centre section of the dash.
The lighting switch panel is now standard Vauxhall yellow (yellow LED's), which doesn't look much different than the yellow glow from a standard clear bulb.
I was quite surprised at how "rough and ready" the original e-bay seller had been when doing the blue LED conversion.
Obviously, as the car is mine, I am taking much more care changing the LED colours.
