Troy's btcc replica gsi
Re: Troy's btcc replica gsi
Well the thing is it has to be good, to get the shape there is 3 weld lines that run the full length the next layer will give it the finish and will be plug welded to it. Only 36 welds, this will knit the welds together ensuring it's strong. Then I'm putting a slighlty thicker gauge over where the fixing mounts will be. Total thinkness in the load bearing area is around 5mm.
I got some M14 12.9 fine thread bolts and some deep captives that will hold it together.
Certainly don't want it falling off, It's took a lot of thought and i even done a drawing so I know what I had to do.
Probably the hardest thing I've ever done

Given the level of rebuild that is required Troy, it definitely is going to require thought as you say.
Nice to see it's progressing.

Well, it's certainly coming together Troy.
Re: Troy's btcc replica gsi
Finally finished the second conversion chassis leg.
Cut more out of the boot so now the subframe fits a lot higher.
Next I need to measure out exactly where the subframe needs to bolt so it's true and centre with the car.

Looking forward to seeing how this goes back together Troy.
Very interesting stuff, and seeing how you develop solutions to the design differences between the Cav and Vectra C.

Great stuff - your welding looks really neat!
Re: Troy's btcc replica gsi
Time is thin at the moment with being in work 7 days, but have managed to make some progress. So Over the week I made a template out of hardboard so I can brace the chassis legs. This is so I can level them and find the centre of the car more easily. The bars are parallel and true with each other.

The legs are now lined up and in perfect position. The whole frame has been tacked to the car so it doesn't move when I join up the chassis legs to the car. Tried a wheel on to see it looks

Re: Troy's btcc replica gsi
Nice choice of wheel
But holy hell, that is going to sit low!
Interested to see how this all develops (I know, I keep saying that).

Re: Troy's btcc replica gsi
It will sit low but not that low.
Its intended for track days as I want it to go as low as it possibly can. As for the wheel it's one I pinched of my neighbour lol
Also have you noticed I've brought the wheel more central of the arch.

Re: Troy's btcc replica gsi
Noticed that it looks different but wasn't sure if it was more central for a reason. So no longer going to be a road car?btcctroy wrote:It will sit low but not that low.

Re: Troy's btcc replica gsi
I find that the wheel is to near the front of the arch, so set the wheel back an inch. This has its pros and cons
Yes the car will indeed be a road car, but should cater for track days nicely too

Longer wheelbase = more stability and more comfort I approve.

The car is looking good. Lots of hard work going in to it.
