hey folks.iv got another brain teaser for you..

iv just put a new head and camshaft on my 1.6 8v astra coz the head and cam were nackered
the car starts but smokes really badly
also code read a fault and cps it the fault and wont clear.
it also wont rev past 3500

the cars done 136k
could the rings be nackered.
it never smoked that bad before i done the head

If the timing is right then there is something clearly not right in what you have replaced. I had a 1.4 cav many years ago with a damaged oil control ring which smoked like hell when it warmed up. What colour is the smoke, it looks white in the picture?

IV done 8v heads before and never had a problem.
its light blue smoke.
I thought maybe the rings were nackered.

It could be rings, you could give it a bit of a run and see if it clears, but it wouldn't follow with the inability to rev past 3.5k?

Crank position sensor? What code? They won't usually start at all if the crank sensor is not reading right.
Thinking back, the last car I had smoking and running, albeit badly, had diesel in the tank. Daft but worth eliminating.
