Well i got aeriel done, and refitted clocks, (speedo not working grrr)

then my mate was being a nob and broke / snapped my hand brake cable.
One step forward, 150 back

Going to pick soime alloys from York tomorrow, dunno if i'll fit them or not.
I'm ever so slightly annoyed at my mate, could have put his head through the wind shield.... but that'd mean insurance paper work for me.

So need a new brake cable now, and clutch cable has about 2k left and that needs doing.

No pics coz of my mate snapping the hand brake cable

If its just the handbrake cable then the lever should be fine, and if hes snapped the lever off the floor, it needs welding.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

RIGHT!

where to start.

Shot off to York at 12pm for some alloys (from Lee1984, vxon) paid and picked em up. Back to Darlington around 3pm.

Got home ripped the old steel wheels off the cav, and whacked the alloys on.
Washed the cav, polished the cav. Then got called for food, then wrote this post :p

Image
Before work commenced

Image
Jacked up, ready for steels to come off, alloys to go on

Image
Quicker as a flash got the new alloys on (new to my car)

Image
Tightening nuts on front n/s

Image
Off the jack and a quick rinse for the photo op :p

Image
After a wash and a double polish :D... Shiny shiny

Update: Handbrake cable still broken, Cav needs complete brake overhaul, clutch and clutch cable to renew, Gmax shockers on back order (for f**k sakes, why eople sell products they don't have?)

Hope thats entertained you for another day...
At PVS 2009 perhaps

The tinted nipple indicators (thats what we used to call them in the nova days) are a lot tidier

Brings the car alive do they not?
Still no hand brake lol, always left in gear at the moment.
Full brake service coming soon... either tomorrow or sometime during the week.... most likely back end of the week (friday sat or sun)

Sorry Foxy didn't see your comment lol, not ignoring you honest...
I used this stuff (but from Halfruads)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/_Car-Parts-Access ... 286.c0.m14

If you have a halfruads trade card you can save some £££ on it.
I also used maguires NXT 2.0 wax / polish stuff.
They are both expensive but its worth it.

Oh yer, i spent almost 4 hours polishing and claying so it had the maxium effect.
I prob don't need to tell you, 1 panel at a time....

I thank you...

I now have working electric windows..... AGAIN! (whooo, go me!)

Erm, still got tons to do.
MOT is due 19 July so need to get my finger out.
  • Sump (on back order, here next week hopefully)
    Altenator Belt to renew
HT plugs to renew (absolutely nackered)
Hand brake cable to replace (thanks to my mate)
    Brakes to bleed
Clutch cable to nip up (or replace)
    Reverse lights to sort out
    Indicators to sort out.
    and more...
Dampers are shot, but not sure if thats a MOT failure.

And yes i still blame everything on the prev owner (bar the handbrake cable) i work with him day in day out...
and he runs his motors like a truck. Buy cheap, run it into the ground and get another cheap buy.
I'm determined to bring the cav back to a state of normality, and try to get it half decent to park up at shows.

IF, and its a big IF. The cav sails through its MOT i'll treat it to a engine bay clean, and polished rocker cover.
But for now until MOT date, all work is MOT prep.

If the shocks are gone, get them replaced, I recommend KYB shocks (about £70 for the front and rears from buypartsby.co.uk)
It will fail the MOT if they are dead - and it will hurt your back..

I ordered a Gmax kit about 2 months back (ARRIVED TODAY...whoo) and it has lowering springs, shockers ect... in it so no problem.
I was just getting frustrated about how long it was taking for my order to arrive, due to the seller selling me something he didn't have in stock.

Now i just need some flat ground (work) , 8 hours of spare time (or more) and finaly some decent weather.

Nope, not 8 certainly.
Make sure you soak the bolts on the rear shockers with a good penetrating fluid too and have an empty boot - it helps alot!
If you pop up one weekend I'll give you a hand.

Working the weekend, Arriva doesn't allow time off EVER lol... joking.
My other problem is that theres a hole in the sump, so i wouldn't want to risk a trip to Newcastle with it in that condition.
The cav hasn't moved an inch in 4 weeks, since i discovered the hole.... on the up shot i have a full tank of petrol!!!

I have a mate helping me do the shockers ect, he is a fully trained mechanic so he comes in useful as ane when.
But by all means you can pop down to Darlington and give a hand, but my spare time is a case of 'as and when it happens' its never planned. LOL

Not a problem, might just do that sometime. be gentle with that engine if theres no oil in it when you first turn it over after changing the sump too.

ofcourse mate, as soon as the sump is changed i'm whacking a halfruads filter on it.
To clear out all the sh*te out of the system, and changing it for a FRAM filter after 2k miles.

Going to do the same for the fuel system too, new fuel filter to fit.
New petrol tank to source and fit when i have time and money.
The petrol tank is in good enough condition as is, but needs doing before it gets any worse.

Hurray! my (vectra) color coded handles arrived today.
From ordering them and paying for them from Ebay to arrival at my door step took less than 15 hours 8-) 8-)

Slightly OVER packaged lol
Image

I'm sure they must be in here somewhere!!! (i hope)
Image

YAY found them at last, pretty much the same color as the cav. But they might need a respray to match
Image

So it'll be sunday or monday when i fit these, but i also have my lowering springs and (after market) dampers to fit now.
