My 1.8 LSi WIP

Post by Adamw5433 »

Well i've finally got round to doing a little bit of work on it.

So what did i do today?
  1. Bought Jack and axle stands
  2. Debadge
  3. Wash
  4. Polish
  5. Poilsh again
  6. remove old air filter and air box
  7. Fit K&N Induction kit
  8. Generaly rip the centre consol out
Sounds more throaty now the induction kit is on, engine seems to have come alive.

Still to do when time and cash allows:
  1. Back box
  2. -60mm Drop
  3. New shockers
  4. Angel eyes
  5. Fit GSI body kit
  6. 17" alloys
  7. Subtle spoiler on the hatch.
  8. Delock
  9. Colour code window mirror backs
  10. Window Tints
  11. Lexus rear lights
  12. Personal plates to go on
  13. Fix drivers side electric window
  14. erm.... stuff

Picys so far: (sorry for poor light)

1. Badges to come off
Image

2.Badges pulled off (helps when u have an assistant with good nails)
Image

3.Old airbox removed, cone to fit
Image

4.Air box thrown where-ever it landed
Image

5.Best mate decided to fit the air filter... not going to say no
Image

6.Air filter on (yes i know its an unusaul place to fit it)
Image

7.My mates girl drumming away to her self
Image

8.I found ONE... just ONE spot of rust
Image

9.Parked up in the street, after being washed and polished
Image

Is it facelift? Because badges on the boot are prefacelift as well as your boot panel. I would get rid of it and fit facelift one. Defo in my opinion lexus lights will riun look of your Cav, but its only my opinion. Double Polish shouldnt be difficult as well, just go to Newton Aycliffe if you know what I mean ;)

Looks very clean tho! Keep up good work.

Oh, and remove these nasty number plate!

Aye its Pre-facelift

Lesux lights are the one with the black background (not chrome) so shoutn't hurt the look of the car too much.

Number only temp to hide 'my' plates :P

I know what u mean by going to Aycliffe lol.... getting like ther here in Darlington

lol

If it is prefacelift I would stick to GSI tinted lights, clear lenses will not match nice, clean prefacelift Cav. But thats only my opinion!

I think you may need to move your filter as well a little bit as from there it will defo suck hot engine air, which will it make only drive worse.

And hey, do you know is my old Cav still around in Darlo? Sold it to guy from there, silver K reg facelift GLS, reg K96 CPY

Please DO NOT stick lexarse lights on it

looks a good base for a project although id improve the induction kit because where it is atm, your going to have terrable heat soak and its infact removing power and no one wants that

Coming along nicely. a nice set of cavalier alloys would set that off lovely 8-)
i'd keep an eye on the position of that filter as well, it is very close to the engine.

gotta agree with Paul about those nasty number plates as well   :P :P

Sort out that filter, it will start sucking in hot air in its current location and will drag the cars performance down.

And Lexarse lights? why oh why... It's a cavalier not a lexus, and even on the lexus's they look crap.

After seeing a Cav GSI a few miles out'a town with the lexus lights on the Rear i decided to drop the lexus idea.

Angels have been dropped, in favour of Morrettes depending if i can get hold of them.

Few other changes but nothing major

Glad you saw the light (yes, bad pun but I laughed..)
But seriously, I would look into relocating that air filter.

Defo air filter needs sorting. Also even in right place, It will not give you any power gains at all!

There was nice set of morettes sold on eBay yesterday (minters with loads of spares) for £130. Also week or so ago there was a guy on VxON selling set as well... If I were you on dark Cav i would make them painted plack (tinted), this will keep them different while still subtle. But I know not all people are keen on tinted headlights.

Well not alot to report today. Planned on polishing ect, but it rained again!!!
  • So picked up leather seats from a guy on Ebay £50
  • Spent £112.80 (odd) on Primer, Paint, clay bar(s), wax ect....
  • Unwrapped the GSI grill
  • Unwrapped the eye brows
  • got really really bored........
  • Decided to change the instrument panel with some white dials
  • took the white back lights out of instrument panel, replaced with blue (getting the VW golf feel going)
  • and picked up a hatchback boot spoiler for a massive £10 (in perfect condition)

Piccy of dials:

More pics to come as and when, most likely around next monday

My 2 bits... either venting very close to the filter (which will look horrible) or fit a smooth steel pipe leading forward to the original airbox position to relocate

06 - June :)

Got up and went straight to Northallerton to collect some black / dark door cards, and rear electric regulators.
Had a wonder round Halfruads found nothing of interest.

Back to Darlington by 11am.

Couple of cups of coffee, then got cracking with the cavy.

Image
Rear door cards awaiting fitting (fronts already fitted)

Image
Old front door cards out, leant against the workhorse

Image
Front near side door card fitted :)

Image
Last but not least, rubbed down the GSI grill ready for priming, painting

The cavy is jut a tip inside, old door cards on the back seats.
Clocks hanging out.
Centre consol still loose.
Boot full of junk.

Hopefully picking up some white 5 spoke 17s on Sunday.

More to come when i get time.
