My Turbo's replacement

After selling my cav the other week the task of finding another car started. As usual it didnt take long to find one and here it is. Its a 2006 Subaru Impreza "Hawkeye", 2.5 litre turbo 4x4.

Its had a few bits done to it and has a rolling road printout for 329bhp and it is really quick, much quicker than the cav was!

Its one of them cars you either love them or hate them and yes i know they are all known as "Chav" cars but i really dont care, Performance wise you really can't beat it for the money!

Glad u all like it. It does have adjustable topmounts yeah, bc racing coilovers.

It does handle spot on yeah. So far i can't fault it mechanically. Theres a few bits on the bodywork that arent perfect and so i'll probably sort them at some point.

Not sure about one off mods on this one lol, unfortunately subaru arent know for there top spec cars, so they dont come with cruise control or bits like that. You might be able to fit it off something else maybe but not sure yet.

I think one of the rear roof diffusers is in order, love the look of them.

Thought i'd stick some more pics up and show you a few bits ive done.

This is a Standard STi Diffuser that was on the car when i got it but i want to replace it with a nicer looking one but i've not decided which one yet.


I removed the "SUBARU" writing from across the boot and also the Sti badge from next to the lock as its only a wrx so i left that badge on


Its got a full Miltek exhaust on it:

This bit of laquer peel on the spoiler needs sorting one day but im not worried about it for now:


I fitted a new radio as the one that comes with it is pretty crap. Got this Pioneer Avic900bt Double Din unit off ebay for £200 second hand, Its allot of money for a radio and its the most ive EVER spent on one but i figured i may aswell get one that does everything which it does. It has sat nav, dvd player, Radio, USB input, aux input, Rear view camera, Bluetooth phone kit built in. So not too bad really. The original 1.0 firmware that it comes with isn't that great and it runds quite slow so you can update the firmware on it. After joining an avic forum i found out that someone had made the latest 4.0 firmware that come on the new units work on my older one. So i put that onto it using a few SD cards and now its much better, much faster, updated maps and bluetooth software. The volume control knob on it was also a really bad design so a guy on the forum had a load of black alloy knobs made up for it so i got one of them which has solved that problem.




I bought a USB socket off ebay and fitted it into the center console, this is attached to the radio so you can play music off a usb stick or ipod (with an extra lead) or just charge your phone up. Also put the aux input cable in there too so its all out of the way.



Thats up to date now, Looking for some new interior also but there not cheap for it and most of them are miles away on ebay!

Not done a great deal on it, but i did get some new lights for it. The original drivers side light had a small crack in it and so that needed replacing at some point but them lights are very expensive second hand and i never liked them that much anyway so i got some differant ones for it.

Original ones on the right, replacement ones on the left:


The new ones are off a 2003-2005 "Blobeye" Impreza and as you can see are mostly red, much better i reckon.



A few weeks ago the front brake calipers decided to seize up on me, apparently its a very common fault on these. It would still drive ok round town but 5-10 mins of motorway driving and they would stick on/heat up badly and start wobbling the steering wheel etc. and basically want to stop!

So i parked it up and took the calipers off. I Stripped them down and ordered a genuine seal kit off ebay:


1 piston in each of the calipers was completely stuck and so holding the pad out. After getting them out they were pitted quite badly, only 5 out of 8 pistons were reuseable and so after checking out the prices of them it worked out about £30 to replace 3 or £50 for a full set and so i got the full set:







Whilst they were stripped down i figured i may aswell grind them back to bare metal and re-paint them:



And thats how the sit at the moment in my front room waiting for the paint to dry properly before i build them up but hopefully have them done this week.

I finally got hold of the other couple of O-rings that i needed and built up the calipers.

I cleaned up the piston areas and fitted the new seals and new pistons in:




The pads i got for them needed some filing around the Pin holes:


Then built them up and cleaned everything as i went:


All built and back on the car:



All i can ssay is what a differance it has made to the car, they must have been siezing up since the day i bought it as it feels totally differant now. It sets off much easier/nicer, it now actually rolls rather than just wanting to stop.

Just gotta bed the new pads in now which according to the box for them takes 150 miles, could take a while!
