Vectra running problem

Post by RNROBBO01 »

hello,

ive just bought a vectra 1.8 16v X18XEV. From buying it i noticed the car had slight misfire, i plugged our diagnostic machine into the port and it came up with 'misfire cylinder 1 and 4'

Going on this i changed the coil pack and plugs, started car and it was fine, run better. I took it out for a run and all seemed fine until i came to a hill and it went back to normal!! EML back on aswell so i plugged it back in and this time the diagnostic machine wouldnt connect. tried numerous times to connect with no luck, i have also noticed that if i put my foot to the floor while stationary the engine will not redline but sit at 4000rpm and flick up and down?

Car will sometimes seem ok and engine is normal, then will go back to how it was!!! my work collegue had an astra 1800 16v with the same problem and that turned out to be the ECU?

If anyones got any help it will be greatley appriciated,

cheers

The ecu's on these are common for breaking. But i wouldnt rule it out just yet, i would be checking all the earths on the engine and the one attached to the ecu. Make sure there all clean.

Also check there is no oil in the spark plug holes.

As Dan has said really, are you sure it's an xev? The later 1800 engine is known for ecu faults that present as a misfire. Read about it on ecutesting.com

Never tried, but it's possible that it's just crap solder joints on the board as Vauxhall seem to suffer with that on quite a few models from about '98 onwards. The x17dt and the x16sz both suffer from it so it's logical that it could be the cause on these too?
