Corsa B Track Car Project

Post by TurboDan »

As the nova was sold and i now had an empty garage i thought it would be rude not to fill it with a car again.

So this Corsa Sport was bought today. Its an X reg year 2000 Sport model with the 1.6 16v engine in.

Its not a bad car at all really and it drove home with no issues at all and went well for what it is.

Its a good spec with Electric windows, central locking, electric mirrors, air conditioning, Power steering. No sunroof which is good.

It does have a few rusty bits mainly on removeable panels though ie. bonnet and bootlid.

So my plan is to make it into a track car, so its getting completely stripped out, dashboard the lot. Aircon stripped off, pas took off, new gearbox, lighter flywheel, coilovers, rollcage etc...

Still road legal though so i can drive it to trackdays. Heres some pics from before after i gave it a quick wash.

Yeah the whole 1.6 engine is just a big mess, its like they forgot about loads of bits and then started to add them on afterwards! 50% of all the crap isnt needed either and is all getting binned. Ive got a Powerbox for it aswell.

Thought it was about time i updated this.

How it stands at the moment:
Image

Ive stripped all the interior out completely and most of it is now sat filling up my garage space at the moment until i either sell it all or just bin it. I have took a deposit on the seats and doorcards but the rest is sat in bin row.

The interior now looks like this:

I've also made a start on stripping off all the unused/unwanted wiring, so by that i mean: Aircon, heaters, rear wiper, electric windows, central locking, alarm etc..
Its quite a fun job really, it makes a change from actually adding wireing to a car lol. I've been doing it properly and removing the pins from each multiplug too so its literally the bare minimum.

You can see here how much has gone as these plugs were 99% full of pins:

This is all the wireing removed so far, ALLOT:

Ive also removed some of the sound deadening too, still got quite abit left to come off though.
The aircon and heater matrix setup has left some big holes that will need welding over but nothing too worry about. Also theres a couple of rusty bits ive found that will need some work too but again not too bad.

The engines ready to come out now and so i'll do that at weekend sometime.

I'd take all that cable to the scrap yard. There's enough there for a couple packs of your favourite biscuits

Its been awhile since i updated this so thought i better had.

Ive bought a few bits for it: Bucket seats and harness's, there not brand new but will do perfect for what i want

A Battery cable from an E46 BMW as they have the battey in the boot and so it runs the length of the car.

Ive removed the battery tray:
Image

Welded and painted the engine bay matt black, just a quick job
Image

Engine was out so i got a new clutch for it and put that in, then refitted the engine:

Ive finished the wiring loom so thats all completely stripped to the bare minimum now and re-taped back up again.
Ive also now got the powerbox on so will get some more pics up this week .
Its all rough and ready but thats all its meant to be.

Interested to see how this goes. I had an early gsi back in '95 and it was such fun to drive.

Well as usual this project has took a turn for the worst, a turn into J davidsons actually....

I might finish one of these projects one day

I stripped it of everything it was worth and off it went.

After i did the trackday on tuesday it made me realise that the corsa just wasnt going to cut it on the track and so i needed a real car to play with and also one that isnt quite as rusty as the corsa was underneath and it was just pure coincidence that i knew just the car to replace it with.....
