Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
I am sure you don't need look if you have already done all the prep-work.
But, as you asked.
Good luck!!

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Replaced the rear spring that was snapped on Thursday night, that about all I have done. Should probably do a basic service on it.
Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
As long as the lights, brakes, horn all work, then your are most of the way their.
The trickier stuff is worn bushes, emissions, and underside corrosion.
In my brief knowledge of this car, it is usually the drop-link bushes that are far too flimsy and fail too easily.
These Japanese cars are usually very good on emissions as long as they do not smoke (stem seals etc) hinting at the engine needing an overhaul.

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Bushes and bearings have all been done over the past 4-5 years bar one bearing. drop links seem fine at the moment. Servicing is high on the list of things to do, it's been a while, but theres no smoking thankfully.
Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
I mention smoking, because...
I am sure that I read somewhere that early Japanese car engines were considered a replacement part at the first mot, so not really intended to last more than three years.
(Hence the huge amount of grey imports that entered the UK via Ireland).
My first car was a 1980 Toyota Corolla, and it smoked very badly.
I replaced the stem seals, but a year or so later had to replace the rings.
It burnt a gallon of oil every 1000 miles.
A brilliant car, and one that I cut my DIY teeth on.
Stripping and rebuilding the 4K engine within six months of passing my test. The autodata manual was a life saver. Fantastic memories.

I didn't know that. How things change.
To be honest I am semi confident on it passing so much so I started fitting the rear camera. Feeding the cabling through the rear tailgate and associated rubbers.

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
I never thought of that, I resorted to using plumbing lube (the type used on the plastic push fit stuff) - at present, the wiring is in the tailgate, and resting in the c pillar, will fish it through tomorrow night and connect it up after the MOT is done.
Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Travelling to the mot test is always nerve-wracking, fingers crossed for you that you get a pass.
Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Yep - fingers and toes crossed here too.
Although I know the Yaris will do you proud.

Cool beans.
Now to finish the Camera installation.
I found the fusebox in the Yaris very confusing.
But then, I only had it for two months, so not much chance to suss anything really.

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Yeah, it shouldn't be too hard :/ right?
Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
I have no idea.
By now, I would have made a map of all pins, and put them on an excel spreadsheet.
Exactly what I did when I rewired the van.
But I am o.c.d. like that - lol

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Still not finished fitting the camera etc, too many other things and too little motivation, however in the middle of a 500 and something mile trip to Watford and back the alternator decided to misbehave, bearings mostly but randomly stopped charging and restarting. So that's now been replaced.
Rear brakes need replacing, need to finally get round to replacing the passenger side front wing too and maybe make it all the same colour.

Nice to see the old girl is still keeping you busy.
Not quite as much as the old days, but you do still seem to get the miles in.
We don't seem to go very any more.
Rear brakes? - a quick afternoon's job, assuming you get some decent weather.
Ah yes, the near-side battle scars from a concrete bollard at Morrison's supermarket in Denton (Manchester).
Doesn't the rear wing have a bit of damage too?
I have just repaired my old laptop, so hopefully pull off some pictures from 2016.

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Aye, I don't anywhere near the miles in I used too, the general cost of stuff vs work vs need to drive anymore is the issue, that and having a reason to go anywhere. Need a catch up at some point.Robsey wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 10:28 pm Nice to see the old girl is still keeping you busy.

As for rear brakes, I hate drums with a passion, but needs doing so.. yey..
And yes. rear arch / dog leg and quarter panel needs some work.
Great news on the laptop happy days.
Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Still got to activate it (set at Windows 8), but I can use it now. (Pesky microsoft update - grrr!!)
Anyway, as promised, some Yaris pics from June and July 2016.
19th June 2016
It's temporary new home.
A CDX for an Envoy CDX
The battle-scarred near side.
The 1300cc engine with the same bhp as the Cavalier C18NZ - 89 bhp.
The quirky floating speedometer display.
The interior view
The original radio never fired up, so I got a Sony radio from an Avensis...
But I could never get it to light up - grr

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
Cheers Rob, I don't think it's ever been as clean inside since.
Both radios have since gone too. Got some Philips unit in it now
I really should pull my finger out and get it looking properly. I can't believe how much power it seems to be delivering since replacing the alternator, very odd indeed.

Re: Toyota Yaris 1.3 CDX (2002).
I think I vacuumed it three times in the brief period that I had it.
I lavished the love non-stop - it was new (to me) and totally different to all my previous cars.
New car, new interest...
I presume the battery is now getting a full charge, which I am sure gives a better fatter spark.

It seems to be, belt squeal re-occurred the other night which is annoying.
I'll see if I can get it to pull any tighter.
