Troy's SuperNova!

Post by btcctroy »

Hi,

Just thought i'd bore people with my ye olde faithful Nova project.

Current jobs include fitting my 6 speed straight cut gearbox borrowed from the cav :(

Doesnt actually fit in the space so chassis rails need modifying, also need custom drive shafts and a race gear linkage.

Photo's to follow while i set up photobucket

That is assuming photobucket will actually work.

It was tight getting the F16 box out last night.
The longer 6 speed box should be fun to shoe-horn into the bay.

Time to get the body saw, angle grinder and welder out - lol

I use postimage.

Apart from a recent hiccup, they have been quite reliable.

And best of all free storage, and unlimited quantity of pictures.

The only niggle is the quantity of adverts when using the postimage website itself.
A minor nuisance, but manageable.

https://postimg.cc/

As with any app or website.
You can go advert free, but this can be quite costly.

Thinking on...

Electronic speedo pulse.

It's what Vauxhall use for corsa's etc without ABS.. you can purchase an orange speed signal relay from gm or get one from scrapyard part number : 09185826 and connect the 5 pin connectors..:
15 - Ignition Live.
31 - Ground
IN1 - one side of ABS sensor
(Out to sender / pickup)
IN2 - other side of ABS sensor
(Return from Sender / pickup)
OUT - Speed signal to blue/red wire.
(Output square wave to speedometer head).

So you would need an ABS sender / pick up, which usually mounts on the front hub flange.
You can get the sender mounts from GM still.
Mounted via a single 6mm bolt.

And an ABS ring from a car of the same type that you would be getting your electronic speedometer from.
Such as a Corsa-B / C.

Not sure if a Corsa B/C abs cv joint would fit a Nova.

I am sure you can fabricate something with a toothed gear to mount from your monster CV joint flange.

And then mount the sender from a bracket close by on the differential casing maybe.

Whatever will fit your steering knuckle, and your drive-shaft.

For ABS rings (29 teeth).
You need to check whether you have 22 or 33 splines in the hub.

Upto 1.4 /1.6 Corsa / Astra would be 22 splines.

Larger engined cars may be 33 splines.
TIS and EPC are not too easy to cross reference.
And your C20XE conversion may also have put another complication in the mix.

At least we know that the ABS ring is part of the outer cv joint.

I use postimage too, I agree, worth the odd niggle at the price

I didn't realise there were adverts :o

For info-I'm using win 10 on pc, ms edge (not the new chrome-one), IObit surfing protection & ads removal(free) and Nordvpn (not free).

I think IObit is killing the ads but I can't be sure because the vpn also blocks ads and malicious sites.

With the vpn regarding images, half the time I have to disable it and refresh the page e.g. postimages or forum. After that switch back on and everything's fine :scratch
