My mk5 Cortina

Due to attention she's getting on my Cavalier thread, here is my pride and joy.

She's a 1982 mk5 Cortina 2.0 Crusader. Had her about 2 years now - only gave £300 pound this is my 14th!
Pretty standard at the moment, lowered on glow in the dark Capri 4 spokes, Ghia interior, and a mk3 Golf GTi electric rad fan. Got some rare electric mirrors and an original boot spoiler as well as a mk2 Granada splitter to go on when i get round to it.

I've rebuilt the head using all new parts in the last few months but it has a recurring over heating issue, plan has always been to drop a cossie YB turbo lump into it, but the plan now is to build a custom 2.0 Pinto turbo just to try and make it a bit different, to stand out a bit

the standard red stripes went cos i've had the drivers side painted after i put a new wing on and the rear quarter was hit on a roundabout

I had a 16GL Estate years ago. Drove to Spain in a 16 Ghia in my late teens. Cortinas were the second choice behind RWD escorts in those days. I still love them and was showing Jess my 9 year old the 'tinas at a local classic show recently.

brings back memories i had a y reg 1.6 gl in beige loved it , my taxi for 3 years the only thing with them was the void bushes used to leave mine "gone" till a week before the mot ....

most mot testers now dont know about void bushes or dont remember them so mine have been knackered since i bought the car,i've mot'd it on them twice

My Dad was once a 'Cortina man' and had numerous car over the years until the mid 90's, when he became a Cavalier convert, great looking car and really takes me back too my childhood.

That does look pretty cool actually, looks in good condition. My girlfriends Aunites husband has this Cortina which he races, 1500bhp! Twin turbo

Sorry to show my age here but i remember when i first saw a mk5 cortina.. i remember it had the bigger rear lamps.. it was a v reg - late 1979 i think - and i remember going to birmingham with my dad in a mk4 2.0 ghia.. beautiful car, but i always found that when you sat in the back you always seemed to sink into the seats (i was skinny then) but so comfortable... 2.3 ghia.. the one to have???

My Dad had a couple of mk4 2.0GLs then a 2.3Ghia followed by a mk5 2.0Ghia. The 2.3 was a nice car, signal amber with chocolate vinyl.

Awesome car, I've own a few Cortina's over my driving life and totally loved them. It's good to see they are still going around.

I used to have a Mk5 *i think* 1.6 Carousel Was in near mint condition until i wrapped it around a lamp post.. then had another Mk4 *i think* blue that was done up by a boy racer, badly.. i sold it for scrap it in end.

Unfortunately many Cortina's met with that untimely end, there are such great cars and a big club meet happens at Symonds Yat every year.

This year it rained all day Still, a wet field full of rear wheel drives old fords is always going to be fun to me

theres a good cortina feature in the current classic ford mag, 50 years of cortina. the cortina crusader gets some good coverage, the mag really rate it.
