Milestone! Literally!

It doesn't matter how many times I look at this thread, I always read the title and think, 'oh, Gary's bought a Mini'

A good milestone -
The Corsa will just be run in now.

Plenty more miles ahead of her yet :thumb

55k on a belt is a lot...
I thought 36k was the recommended change schedule.

I do mine every 32k.

It is so easy on those small 8v engines.
45 minutes tops....

Aye 40k is generally where I change them. been putting it off whilst I sort out the other head (still no further forward).

however, that said - I now have light in the shed.

And as that - the corsa got a really good scrubbing at the weekend too.

Dug out a box of goodies I stripped off the Cescaro Astra I broke 2-3 years ago that belonged to my dad.

Since then, the head has been stripped down, cleaned up and skimmed. Just need to get round to rebuilding it.
Pick up a spare fuel pump for the corsa tank, work out the wiring (which Robsey has provided wiring diagrams for so shouldn't be to difficult to sort.

Well Friday saw me turning my attention to a squeak and squeal I'd been dismissing for months as a "I'll get round to it.." job.

I' previously bought:

Shocks, springs, discs, pads and various mounts.
Stripped the front end down, pissing about with spring compressors and could I hell get things to line up. So after 3 hours of swearing I bought this:

Clarke 1 Tonne Spring compressor

Really didn't have many other options, so now I need to find a home for it.. Hurrah..

Anyhow, that all flew back together.
However the pads, well they worried me - there was maybe 2mm of material left on them, discs new last July were now scrap! Literally - replaced in the nick of time I say!

If I'd thought about it, I'd have taken pictures - but I didn't :(

Anyhow, no more squeaks or groans, so something got fixed!

Woohoo -

You'll be pleased you'd got them bits done.

I have noticed this a lot really - brake pads and discs appear to be made from crumbly Lancashire cheese.
They don't seem to last half as long as they used to "when I was a lad"!!

Ah well it's all done now - until next year.. (runs away)

Well, next on the list is the rebuilding of the SE head (though, seriously considering getting my hands on an x18xe1 lump and just dropping that in instead).
Got the head back from CAS Engineering, was going to have the valves re-cut and ports fettled, but just settled for a good skimmed face (however more than few thou had to come off, so compression maybe a bit screwy..)

Shed is stupidly full now though.

Well today, I got annoyed looking at rust spots on the bodywork, so in a fit of rage I took the whizzy tool to some of them, gave them a quick red oxide coat and slapped some paint over them.
Doesn't look much better unfortunately, but at least its not rust! :)

Aahhh - Rust is the devil's spawn

It can always be rubbed down and tidied up at a later date.
Better than getting to the stage of cutting out rotted metal and welding in fresh steel. :D

Yeah, bit of pitted metal, but can sort that with little to know work really.

Yup - prevention is always better (and easier) than cure.
So I guess that you have added to the harlequin paint effect :P
Another colour added to the list.

Didn't VW use that as a selling point for the Polo at one stage or another?!

So the bitch has bitten again, this time in the form of a groan / creak on left to right lock - but doesn't do it on right to left!
Trying to work out why. Apparently there is a knocking from the passenger side - but I can't see anything obvious - fun and games ensue.

however, 157k now!
