ive been told that the wheels on my cavalier are astra ones as they only 14" and look a bit small, probably why my spedo reads more than im actually doing, 3 have excellent tyres, 1 could do with changing, anyone got any bigger wheels they wanna swap with?, they are the same as the gls ones thats why i never noticed with the 50p shaped centre cap,

Think most came with 14" wheels bar the Gsi and Turbo models and maybe some higher spec cars like the diplomat??

Wheel size wont make any difference to your speedo but tyre size will, I have 15" mk4 Astra sport alloys on mine and I have 195/60/15's which I know are wrong as I should have 195/50/15 and this makes a difference to my speedo apparently...lol

you should have 195,60,15s.195,50s are to small.

not necessarily "too" small, just smaller.

to find out how far out it is try inputting the totally std tyre size (what it should have from the owners manual) into a tyre calculator and then try your "smaller" size - and compare the 2 - maybe one like this - http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

I was told by a vauxhall dealer guy mine should have bigger wheels on it, the 14" is for the astra, and looking at my car side on they look way too small, i never noticed till he said,

Cav's came with both 14and 15" wheels. Depends onthe spec and model really. Fan-blades on the SRI's where 15"', Cav GSI alloys where 15" Expression and GLS I am sure where 14's though I could be wrong.

I wouldn't believe a word any vauxhall dealer tryed to tell me about my cav. If its over 5 years old they haven't a clue!

Some Vauxhall dealers dont even know what a Cav is! lol

I remember hearing a story where someone phoned up a dealer after some bits for his Carlton. The obviously wet behind the ears lad on the end of the phone said 'vauxhall have never made a car called the Carlton!'

BTW LS's and GLS's all came with 14" wheels as standard.

Some did come with Steelies and trims, depends what was specified when new. My 1.8 GLS came with steels where as both the GLS TD's i had came with the GLS alloys. All 14" though.

Using the reg plate in your photo
EPC4 says

PYH = WHEEL ROAD STEEL 51/2JX14
QUW = TYRES 195/60 R 14-85H

Hope that helps :D

My old Sri had 14s on it and that was close to caliper very close LOL.
But yeah most cavs I've had sat on 14s as standard.

As long as you have 195/60/14 tyres you are ok, your motor is a GLS and had 14" wheels from the factory. The vaux dealer is talking borrox

True - anything as old as a Cav, and they will not even bother to look for parts, unless You give Them the part numbers.

There are exceptions to this rule - Pentagon Oldham and Paul at Horn's Stockport.
These chaps have been very helpful.
