Wheel discs cleaning

There must be something in the way that (front) brake pad dust combines with grease to make traces of both baked onto the wheel discs (Cav standard) particularly difficult to remove.
In the past I've just used ordinary car shampoo and put up with the inferior results. However I had a brainwave earlier today and used T-cut on a non-scratch scouring pad and this was an improvement but not perfect.
This set me wondering if there is a more effective specialized wheel cleaner which is more than just the standard mixture with different marketing blurb on the pack and at double the price. I think there is quite a selection available online non of which I would opt for unless it was on the basis of a personal recommendation.

Wheel discs?

Do you mean wheel trims?

A good quality wheel cleaner, allowed to soak into the dirt before scrubbing off.
And rinse with plenty of clean water.
As you say - with a non-abrasive scourer.

I do indeed mean wheel trims. Can you recommend an effective cleaner? The equivalent of a heavy duty oven cleaner I suspect but without the heat and aromas .. [Not easy to get it to soak into the dirt without putting the car on its side ..]

I use Autoglym Clean Wheels. Works well for me but other brands are available.
