17" Tyres
17" Tyres
Hi folks, first post over here
Looking for some wisdom on what tyre size to choose, fitting some 17" Kahns to my SRi in the next couple of weeks before Billing but I'm not 100% on which tyres to spec.
It's a choice between 205/40/17 and 215/40/17. The car will be lowered 60mm. I'm not keen on 205/40s, always thought of them as chav spec and too low profile but I feel 215/40s will be too big.
What do people run on their 17" wheeled cars?
Cheers

I have 205s and it feels fine! I wouldn't agree with the chav comment as chavs use all sizes lol
Re: 17" Tyres
Use to run 215/40 17s, abit bigger on the sidewall, keeps the rolling radius right

Re: 17" Tyres
I didnt have a lot of choice on my old cav.. 215's would just catch the inside lip of the arch over defined bumps, shame really because they grip like fook compared to 205's it used to turn in a treat!
Don't eat too many mushrooms... Else you won't have 'mush-room' for anything else!!! Hahahaha
Re: 17
Yours looks superb too, think 205s might be the answer being a bit cheaper, always thought they'd be too thin looking.Stoater85 wrote:I have 205s and it feels fine! I wouldn't agree with the chav comment as chavs use all sizes lol
The chav thing comes from Halfrauds, they'd sell you a set of wheels and no matter what car, big or small, they were to go on they had 205/40s

This was my thinking but working it out using my maths, it's almost 1" taller than the 205/55/15s on just now. Like I say though, that's my maths!bigmitch wrote:Use to run 215/40 17s, abit bigger on the sidewall, keeps the rolling radius right

Lol good point! I had to use 205 as my car is so low they need tuck inside the arch lip.Lugy wrote:Yours looks superb too, think 205s might be the answer being a bit cheaper, always thought they'd be too thin looking.Stoater85 wrote:I have 205s and it feels fine! Re: 17" Tyres
take a look at this tyre calculator im currently looking at different size wheels and tyres and ive been using this seems pretty easy to use and it gives you the rolling circumference, the radius at standstill and when moving.

the difference between 205/40 and 215/40 is that the 215 will raise your car by 3mm at standstill and 4mm when moving.
hope this helps

Mine never catched she was runing goodyear F1's ,crap in the snow thoughGaz wrote:215's catch 205/50's catch so im limited to 205/40 ive got no choice in the matter.
Re: 17" Tyres
Thats what killed my last one, 60mm drop with a 40 profile not good combo with the roads up hereGaz wrote:mines low as you like theres not actually any gap in the arch
Re: 17" Tyres
Think we'll play it safe and go for 205/40s and avoid potholes at all costs!

My valver brings all the boys to the yard, dam right its cammed and carbed, dam right it pops and farts, I would show you but the fuker won't start!
Re: 17" Tyres
thats what i now have they don't rub at all on the front and only just touch on the rear drivers side but that will be sorted tomorrow and mine is dropped 40mm on mk3 astra springs so its lower than the -40mm the springs are meant to begsi pie wrote:205 40 17s on a beam cav
