power steering pump

has anyone ever replaced the mechanical belt driven power steering pump, with a electric pump, is it possible, and what pump to used and what is involved, the reason I ask is my new turbo set up if fouling the original power steering
pump and I can not get it fitted, thanks Ads

thanks for that Dan, I knew about the EPAS system, I wanted to know if I could get some kind of electric pump to operate the existing steering rack, Ads

Ah - so you are looking for something like the Vectra-C Electro-hydraulic power steering.
Hmm - Vectras have a lot of electronic controller gubbins running the steering, so not easy.
Unless you are a whizz at vehicle CANbus technology.
I presume Half-CAN vectras (Oct 2002 to Sept 2004) are easier to adapt than the later full CANbus vectras introduced in October 2004 onward.

Obviously straight Corsa-C EPAS is cleaner and easier.
And no pipework required.
Fit the powered steering column.
Convert to manual steering rack.
and away you go.
