progressive/slingshot acceleration from a V6?

Post by cav_2.0_gli »

hello all,

i put my cav 2.5 V6 CDX back on the road yesterday, and i have a few problems with it.

1) in 1st gear, it accelerates fine. as soon as i try booting it in 2nd/3rd or higher, it accelerates as though its in a slingshot. as in, the accelerates abit, then stops, then abit more, then stops, then abit more, and so on. the EM or any other lights dont come on, and ive done 200 miles like this now.

now, my rear rubber/metal gearbox mount is knackered, and needs replacing (being done asap), but it was knackered for awhile, and its never done this before.

what could be causing this weird acceleration? broken engine mount?

also, everytime i go above 70-75mph, im getting quite abit of vibrating from the front end (i presume gearbox due to the mount) and the pad/disc warning light comes on and stays on???

im changing the discs n pads soon anyway.

any help is greatly appreciated!

nope, no EM or any other lights on. idles as normal, no misfiring that i can hear, seems to be alright unless its under harsh acceleration. any ideas what it could be?? i remember someone once saying to me that it could be an engine mount has snapped if it does that???

engine mount would make the car vibrate and the engine rock like a demon. You changed the fuel filter, it could be running out of fuel at full throttle

Sounds daft but check the throttle cable, if the clip has come off sometimes you can put your foot flat to the floor with out even opening the throttle.

i dont think its fuel filter/pump related.

due to the fact that in neutral, it revs up fine, and it does the same in first gear, just as soon as i get into the other gears, it starts slingshoting when it accelerates.

as i say, no EM light, throttle cable appears to be fine, and so on.

car always starts first time, no cutting out, no misfiring, its running like normal apart from the weird acceleration.

once ive stopped accelerating, it will hold the revs fine. will happily sit at 4000rpm with no problem, which again is making me think its not fuel related.

cheers

ive been told that my cav V6 could be running on 5 cylinders???

what would cause this? its only been stood up for 1 month lol.

1000 miles before i stood it up, i changed:

spark plugs (to bosch super4 ones)
HT leads (to performance 10mm ones)
oil (gen VX stuff)
oil filter (gen VX one)
cleaned air filter (as its a new induction kit)

and it was running 100% fine then.

the coil pack, rear knock sensor, front engine temp sensor have all been changed recently. i have also cleaned the cam sensor and refitted that.

any other ideas what it could be???

im not sure if it is running on 5 cylinders, ive been told that thats a possibility.

ive cleaned the throttle body out earlier with carb cleaner, still the same.

given it a heavy doseage of Reddex aswell, done 40 miles now, and its still doing it, but i know Reddex takes awhile to start working.

are the VAC pipes ok to the solinoid and from the solinoid to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail

Imo it sounds like a lack of fuel when under load hence jerky acceleration
