So after months of driving around with the EML on complaining about the camshaft sensor on my X20XEV, it finally gave up and stopped the car from working. I called a mate to rescue me and between the two of us we replaced the sensor and got the car back home...
Firstly - when you put the sensor in and start to screw it in, it is possible to move the sensor around screw, so that it can end up sitting a few degrees off vertical either way. Does this affect the performance of the sensor?
Secondly - While taking the car home, it gave a shudder and the EML came back on. Once at home, I gave it the paper clip test and it came up with faults on the camshaft sensor, oxygen sensor, engine RPM and 93, which is apparently "Hall sensor - voltage low (Quad Driver Module)". We had started the engine with the airflow sensor unplugged, so I'm not surprised to see this pop up. Will these faults take some time to clear from the ECU (I thought when I fixed a sensor the light went off straight away, so does this mean that there is still a problem?) and what is a hall sensor and what could be the problem with it?

Re: Camshaft sensor and other animals
Might not be quite seated right.
Was the sensor a known good one / new one?
Could be the plug / wiring end at fault too.

have you checked the earth on the fuel rail is tight/clean still connected?
Re: Camshaft sensor and other animals
I glanced at it and it looked alright. What should be connected to it?Gaz wrote:have you checked the earth on the fuel rail is tight/clean still connected?

Re: Camshaft sensor and other animals
should be the common earth for that side of the engines sensors
Re: Camshaft sensor and other animals
yes ... if the cam sensor is moving around it will have an effect ... mine used to
yes ,...you need the afm connected and once they are detected and working the eml should be off
the camshaft sensor is a hall effect device so typical computer says
" hmmn? camshaft sensor faulty .... aye up no hall effect signal ..... ahhh its because the camshaft sensor id dodgy I know let send out 2 ecu fault codes to confuse the human
i hate electronic devices and the way they are programmed

Had this same situation with my cav. same engine ,renewed camshaft sensor and wiring, got it as a kit fom L.M.F. Vauxhall, approx £45.This was in June 2009 never had any more troubles with E.M.L.
