redtop will not turn over

i fitted a reconditioned starter and alternator today but cav will not turn over so took starter back out and put a direct live to it and it worked so refitted it so took out alternator and fitted a differant one and still will not turn over checked all wires fuses and joints all ok but i noticed when the ignition is turned on all dash warning lights light up as normal but the engine management light and brake warning light are not as bright as the rest :wall :wall :scratch

did you disconnect the battery when you did the starter?

Possibly the starter relay.

had battery on charger while fitting starter the main feed to starter has power but the little one has none :wall :scratch

You shouldnt have had the battery/charger on while you changed the starter, its one of the few jobs you cant get away with leaving it on

check the starter relay clicks when you attempt to start it, its sort of in (but behind) the fusebox, look for the black/red wires
Im assuming your checking the black/red is live when your trying to start it.

yes battery leads were off.

Just to check the starter when fitted, give the small terminal a direct live with the ignition on or off, it should turn it over.

If not it could be a earth fault which may affect the warning lights aswell, although im not 100% sure on that.
