Re: bought second hand gearbox how a find owt if it wud fit
there will be a number here:
you need to scrub it realy hard to see the numbers

which will be the final ratio will tell you if its a good short ratio revy box or a long ratio box

Re: bought second hand gearbox how a find owt if it wud fit
If there is no obvious marking at the top near the turret then look very carefully around the edge of the endplate, there is a flat section which has the id numbers stamped on it in letters about 6mm high. I don't think there would be an issue fitting the box, most vauxhall boxes are fairly interchangeable with the right clutch and flywheel, but if it is an f10 I wouldn't bother as the bearings are crap on them anyway. You'd be better sourcing an f13.

93 1.6 8v is almost certainly a c16nz2 which is the large block engine

Re: bought second hand gearbox how a find owt if it wud fit
Got a f13 gearbox now but hasn't got an inspection plate oan the gearbox and the casing looks a bit different and the input shaft is shorter on the replacement will this gearbox work the same as the old
Re: bought second hand gearbox how a find owt if it wud fit
I have always found the code on top.. as Planetc describes.
It was on top on my 1.3 Cavalier Mk2 fitted with an F10.
This is a library picture clearly identifying an F20
I shall check the 1.6's available in 1993 shortly.
Okay UPDATE
1.6's available in 1993 according to TIS were
16SV and
C16NZ2
No mention of the C16NZ.

Re: bought second hand gearbox how a find owt if it wud
It's defo a f 13 coz there is a number that matcha the two boxes but the hong that's puzzling me is the shaft being shorter. That the onli thing puzzling
Re: bought second hand gearbox how a find owt if it wud fit
From that, I assume you mean the input shaft.
So we are comparing shafts from two F13's or an F10 and an F13?
If it is an F10 and an F13, then it could be down to flywheel thickness and clutch plate size.
The F10 may have a different set up, and so doesn't need the shaft to be as long
If they are both F13's
Hmm, I wonder if the car has had a clutch change, (the car the gearbox came from)
and the owner / garage hadn't pushed the input shaft fully into the box, and fitted the retaining circlip.?
Although 5 speed boxes are usually tight on the input shaft, the circlip is there for a reason - to stop the shaft from creaping out over time.
Just a thought...

Maybe one has a sliding shaft and one is later fixed shaft?
