"No the temperature gauge doesn't work........
we've driven 150 miles today........
the heater went cold last Thursday........
they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

Ecotecs dont like being driven hard.
So if you make it faster, chances are you are going to want to drive it fast. And therefor break it more often.
There was an ex CID sri in TV mag about ten years ago.
It was moddified and beat lots of other cavs at Santa pod! Redtops and a few v6's and turbos.
But guess what. . . . . .
He was constantly replacing the head gaskets. (Which to be fair he seamed to laugh about)
So The question is do you want a faster cav and less chance of it going pop? But with still good MPG??? Fit a Rebuit C20xe.
If you dont care about MPG but want to go fast and sound as if you are indeed going fast even when your not???? Fit a v6.
I liked my cav when it had the ecorec. But didn't like the problems it had. I like the 3litre it has in now better tho.
My ecorec was standard. And it didn't like being driven hard at all.
A v6 will go as fast as an ecotec at much less stress on the engine. Put your foot down and it will go even faster.
I'm not saying you cant not make your ecotec faster than standard. But its not cheap to get the bits, and its not a strong engine.
The money would be better spend on an egine swap.
